peak flow meaurements when phlegmy!!!
Just a quick clarification needed please If I were to take a peak flow reading, but in the process the phlegm 'rattled' would this affect the reading? Would it make it falsely higher or lower? I'm thinking I should discount the value, but at the moment I can't take a reading without it happening, and

Feeling kind of frustrated
For the last week and a half my asthma has been acting up again. After a couple of good weeks it seems somehow harder to deal with when things go back to where there were before. I had a few weeks where I was feeling pretty good and my energy level was actually better than it has been in years.

Change of consultant (and a rant - sorry)
Ok, I assume others on here will have had experiences of changing consultants, I need a consultant while i'm at uni to be my 'person' when i'm in hospital. However, i don't think i can tolerate my current one anymore! Can my GP change me to a different one? can he change me to a named one? If thats not

Weird ""relaxing"" asthma attack?
Recently I've been noticing a pattern that I'm fairly certain has been going on for years and years. Sometimes all of a sudden I get really really tired. Or sometimes tiredness creeps up on me. Either way, I might be running errands and then boom, I barely have the energy to take another step. Or

The awkwardness of peak flow...
So, my PF isn't a very sensitive measure day to day, but it dropped during a recent, long, pretty bad flare-up, down to maybe 65-75% most days. Not crisis but not as good as it could be considering normally it doesn't drop much even when I have symptoms! However, I thought this indicated something was

Confused about when to call GP
I'm kind of confused about when to call my GP. The way I usually think about these things is: a) you only call a doctor if you are ill b) you only call the doctor if you can't fix the problem yourself c) you try to avoid calling the doctor any more than you have to because he's clearly busy Except

Really confused as not sure whether I have asthma or emphysema or both.
Went for a scan about 3 years ago and it apparently showed some emphysema. Gave up smoking and then went to Respiratory nurse about two years ago for a reverse spirometry and the results were 79%. I was told that I was asthmatic and did not have emphysema. I unfortunately started smoking again and then

I wonder if anybody can help me.I have been asthmatic all my life although it has been mild, only ever needing my salbutamol inhaler about once or twice a week, usually after exercise.Back in november 2012 I developed a respiritory tract infection which left me with a constant tickly cough with constant

Beginning to think I have severe asthma - any advice please
I'm 48 and recovering from an asthma attack after a combined bad cold and allergic reaction to pet rats. My history in brief - I had bronchitis/hayfever as a child. In the last 10 years my allergies have got progressively worse - lots of oral allergy syndrome plus the normal stuff like cats/rats/pollen

To take pred or not?
The doctor I saw last week gave me a prescription for pred, but told me to fill it only if my peak flow dropped to 210 (50% of my best). Since my peak flow never goes below 300, even when I have ended up in A & E, that's not a very helpful measure but she didn't give me anything else to go on. All she

Lung function deterioration
Hi I'm an otherwise healthy 42 yo male, not overweight and get plenty exercise. Over recent months I have got progressively more out of breath. Yesterday for example I collapsed with dizziness after running out of puff whilst hoovering. I can walk good distances but I know I have done it! My chest constantly

towards an unexpected diagnosis....
Hey all. So, they're 99% sure I have Addison's. I'm in for emergency stabilisation via iv since last night. Earliest possible release is Monday. Steroids for the rest of my life. But HC not prednisolone thank god. It is mostly a huge relief. It at least part explains the way my asthma has flared over
