Peak flow meter
Hi. I'm new to this. Is there any way I could increase my peak flow? My personal best is 350. I'm 4'11 and in my early twenties. My doctor gave me a Ventolin inhaler. Will it help to increase my peak flow rate? I need to get it to 450 as part of my work medical

Low peak flow
Hi all Asthma has been in a fairly good place recently, but have over the last couple of days I’ve started with a tickley thread which has gone into a bit of a cold and my chest is a bit congested. I feel fine overall but have a bit of a cough and a bit phlegmy etc. I’m not breathless in anyway, and

Usually symptoms gets slightly better when I get up but persist during the day ( for example taking stairs or just walking

The steady drift down...
Here we are, 4 weeks post discharge and the night symptoms are worsening and the peak flow is definitely on the way down! Really annoying because apart from a random allergy and a bug a couple of weeks ago I’ve had really low level symptoms in between so the xolair seems to be helping. Time to whack

First severe asthma attack (long post sorry)
On Saturday I had a really bad asthma attack. I’ve had a couple before that I thought were bad but with each one it seems to get worse. Although, thankfully they’re pretty spread apart. On Saturday I couldn’t breathe. My chest was really tight. I took 19 puffs of salbutamol, was taken out of my work

Visit to asthma nurse...
Went this morning as still not feeling that asthma is controlled. It was an interesting experience! 1. She asked me what my peak flow normally was so I told her - 475-500, she then gave me a peak flow meter to use that only went up to 400 and I blew that to the max! I took mine out of my bag and used

Asthma - top tips and advice!
Hi guys - another list for you all 😂! As always feel free to discuss and add your own top tips and advice below! So here it goes; 1. Keep your GP informed and involved to your condition if it’s flaring (as much as you can in the current climate of appt shortages!) - if you’re suddenly getting symptoms

What I wish I had asked (when first diagnosed)
Hi everyone I’ve recently read an article about shared appts with doctors, and whilst it’s not something I would like personally, it does bring up an interesting point - very few people know what to ask when they’re first diagnosed (with asthma)! I know I never asked questions, mainly because at the

What I wish I had known (and what I have learnt through trial and error!)
Asthma is a learning curve so here’s what I wish I had known from the beginning! In no particular order: 1. Asthma is different for everyone. Obvious now, but starting out to me asthma was asthma - a blue pump fixed it and a brown pump prevented it. Now I know all the different types and severity, and

THINGS I WISH I KNEW!
The big one, that when a doctor examines you, it’s just a snapshot in time. In five minutes you could sound completely different. That you can have great lung capacity when healthy but still have really severe asthma. That how your chest sounds sometimes tells you little about the severity of your

Back on prednisolone
Hi all. Just wanted to have a little moan as I’ve just started my third pred course of the year and feeling a bit sorry for myself. I don’t feel that symptomatic, just a bit tight and coughing a bit, but my peak flow is pretty low - doctor thinks it’s due to a seasonal allergy (fungal spores). I’m already

Low peak flow
I am being treated as if I have asthma since I developed a cough at the end of July 2018. I have had 2 lots of steroids and I'm now on fostair inhaler that has stabilised things. I have a peak flow meter and am taking a reading 2x a day. When I started taking readings I was at 240, my lowest was 90 (

W6R3 (and a bit of a back story)
I did it! I cannot believe that I just ran for 25min non-stop, with a tiny bit of a sprint finish at the end! What makes it so amazing, for me, is that I have never run for that length of time without stopping in my entire life... When I was a child and growing up, I had really bad asthma. It was uncontrolled

General anaesthetics for gallbladder removal and asthma.
I am on the active waiting list to have my gallbladder removed. I have a large stone which is giving me a fair amount of discomfort. I also suffer from reflux which I understand can aggravate asthma. I have had asthma for approx. 45 years and the only time I needed Ventolin was approx. once per year

Hi, I have had asthma since childhood (now 45) and a productive cough for 6 years. This summer I had a chest infection which I had trouble getting rid of followed by some issues with fungus in my sputum (which seems to have gone now as last sputum gets was clear). Currently waiting for appointment at
