Severe RLS, non pharmacological healing attempts, and a recent bipolar 2 diagnosis
I’m currently researching the
dopamine
theory (as
dopamine
issues relate to bipolar and to work-related burnout too) and inflammation, and doing all I can in my day to day life to improve these areas to see if it helps. I’m worried I’ve missed something obvious along the way.

Magnesium and dopamine
Maybe someone can help explain the effect of magnesium on
dopamine
levels.I thought a
dopamine
agonist was helpful in calming rls. Magnesium is an antagonist so decreases
dopamine
levels, yet is touted as effective in controlling rls. Don't know if I'm making any sense here.

My Story Up To Now
Duluxomine finally helped depression, and has worked on low dosage for all these years (helps with
dopamine
reuptake). When I've tried to go off, depression returns, so it seems i need some sort of low dose antidepressant. Hoping trying Wellbutrin (bupropion) will help, if my doctor approves.

Using L-Tyrosine with Fluoxetine (Prozac)?
After doing a bit of research it seems Fluoxetine increases serotonin levels in the brain but does absolutely nothing for
Dopamine
levels which is why I would like to take L-Tyrosine alongside it.

I need help now
Obviously, all my Serotonin or
Dopamine
is totally zapped, because I have no emotions other than bad. I've had many years to deal with this and have tried everything to talk myself out of the way I feel, get up and do stuff, but I can't. I can't. Plain and simple.

Phellodendron - MAO-B - Dopamine - Relora
MAO-B is an enzyme which breaks down
dopamine
. Our levels of the 'feel-good' neurotransmitter decline about 13% per decade after age 45. MAO-B is also a target in Parkinson's & Alzheimer's.

What does GPT4 have to say about the role of inflammation in RLS?
This was the answer I got: "Chronic inflammation can contribute to the dysfunction of the
dopamine
system by damaging the dopaminergic neurons in the brain. This can lead to a reduction in
dopamine
levels, which can cause the symptoms of RLS.

The role of istradefylline in the Parkinson's disease armamentarium
As a result, an up regulation of A2A receptor occurs and weakens the efficacy of istradefylline as modulator of
dopamine
effects on motor behaviour in Parkinson's disease.

Found something that is helping so far!
Wellbutrin blocks the reuptake of
dopamine
and norepinephrine, and more
dopamine
means more focus for us! I’ve been taking it about two weeks but felt different within a few days.

Hypersexuality and impulse control disorders (ICD)
The
dopamine
agonist implicated in these issues is Neupro (10mg), and we've encountered difficulties in tapering it down. Any insights or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Seeking advice for changing from Temgesic to Gabapentin for treating my refractory RLS.
I have suffered with Restless legs for 52 years now and have been through the hell of being on
dopamine
agonist medication and experiencing augmentation. I have asked my new doctor to do some research into the latest research on RLS.

Zhittya the drug treatment that should address the root causes of the disease and not just the symptoms.
Recent research proposes that microvascular disorder hinders the blood flow to
dopamine
-producing neurons, thereby causing Parkinson's Disease.

Mum newly diagnosed with MSA-P and we are all struggling
She started to loose strength on her right side, with Bradykinesia and we sent her for investigations as they weren’t sure whether it was a stroke etc but after 5 months to get results the DAT scan showed lack of
dopamine
.

Stopped taking mood supplement, SAM-e...is that WHY I'm struggling?🤔🧐🤨
SAMe plays a role in the immune system, maintains cell membranes, and helps produce and break down brain chemicals, such as serotonin, melatonin, and
dopamine
. It works with vitamin B12 and folate (vitamin B9). Being deficient in either vitamin B12 or folate may reduce levels of SAMe in your body.

Edited: PD increases chance of RLS.(yes) Azilect worsens RLS.(wrong) Ambroxol, being an antihistamine I believe worsens RLS.(incorrect)
Editing my edit: (yes, I know, but I’m trying) Not only do
dopamine
agonists make RLS worse but so do meds that increase
dopamine
. Azilect was not mentioned specifically but increasing
dopamine
is a “cause of RLS augmentation.” Levodopa increases augmentation meaning it makes RLS worse.

RLS and iron metabolism and treating with dopamine agonists causes dopamine burnout
And, I now think the
dopamine
agonists are prodding the tired
dopamine
receptors until they die instead of nurturing them back to health.)
