DBS Surgery
I have had several requests to update my status since my surgery on December 15. I will be going to the doctor to adjust my voltage on Tuesday and would like to defer until then. My neuro advises that it takes 3 weeks for the full impact of each adjustment to take place. The amount of meds I need

DBS Surgery “Awake or Asleep” that is the question?
Ive had it with dealing with the symptoms of this disease and I’m looking for some relief and maybe some normalcy at least for awhile, so I’ve decided to explore DBS. I have a consultation on 1/26 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston to evaluate if I’m a candidate or not. I’ve heard from many on

Would a brain tumour cause fluid build up in ears and neck pressure?
Is having fluid in your ears normally a sign of a infection rather then a Brian tumour that's causing my hearing problems? Would a Brian tumour cause fluid build up? I'm just wondering as the ringing in my ears is unbearable and i'm having pressure in my neck, I always feel like I have to rest my hand

Hello everyone
Hi everyone at Headway. I was told about this community by a friend. I'm 40, have one 3 yr old daughter called Elsie and two step children, Oliver 15 and Lucy 13. I'm a secondary school teacher. I had a sub arachnoid haemorrhage earlier this month and an embolisation of the aneurysm. They found

Second job
So just gone and got myself a second job a few hours on a Saturday and Sunday as an elderly carer. I’ve got to stay at least 6 months otherwise I have to pay for my dbs and training. Just starting slowly to see if I can handle it. The extra money would be grateful 🙂 Just hoping I can handle my job

Anxiety is such a bitch. thats all I got to say really. Just an absolute bitch. It doesn't get better. I've taken propanolols etc and I still feel terrible. I can't work because I keep thinking people are talking bad about me & I start snapping at them. Can concentrate because I keep thinking there's

Anxiety and metallic taste
So I have had this metallic taste in my mouth for over a month. It started after I went to the dentist last, for a cleaning. I also have been getting headaches in the same place for about three weeks. I'm not sure if the two are related, and I've stopped myself from googling "headache and metallic taste

Post Surgery Day Number 18 - How wonderful this is! My neuro gave me the okay today to adjust my regulator. Went from 1.9 to 2.0 on the right side (can choose which side and more or less "juice") and I went from feeling like a frozen lump of dough to getting up and working in my office for half an

Hi! Thanks for letting me join this group. I’m writing this for my husband who is having DBS Surgery Jan. 26,2018. My question is are there any certain things we should know like miscellaneous items he should take to the hospital? Also any other helpful things that might make it easier for him while

This will be short, as I have orders to rest my brain. Because I still have a small bookkeeping business, I have to make sure my clients are taken care of before I can post here. I am doing well. I want to thank all of you who sent messages of encouragement. My regulator is turned on, and the program

Happy 2018
Happy New Year everyone! Yes, life is tough and our common struggle has brought us together. I sincerely wish that each one reading this would find hope not in this “all that glitters is gold” world but in the God who spoke the universe into existance. I’m planning on DBS scheduled for February and

15 Years On and Still Going Strong
As some of you may know I had near fatal viral meningitis in July 2002. I wasn't expected to last the night on the 13th July let alone be around and kicking some 15 years on. So what does it feel like to be 15 years on from a life changing experience? In a word, pretty awesome. OK so that's two words

Is DBS good idea while PD still moderate?
Age 75, diagnosed 5 years ago. Score 41 out of 199 in UPDRS test. Went to new PD doc (old one moved) who said that even though my motor symptoms are still moderate and on one side, I would be good candidate for DBS. I thought that treatment was reserved for people in later stages. Anyone have any

First of all. THANK YOU!! for all your good wishes! I am home and recuperating. This will be short so my brain can rest but I am doing well. Tuesday after Christmas I get my stitches out and the regulator turned. I will write a full report on my surgery experience next week. Merry Christmas to you
