I found this interesting and informative image the other day. You can view the full image by following the link - but, depending on whether you are using a phone, a tablet, a computer, you might get different options and sizes of image, etc. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Thyroid_hormone_synthesis.png

After total thyroidectomy RI treatment, good idea?
I’ve had all of my thyroid removed and some thyroid cancer around my windpipe. It has been recommended I have radio active iodine treatment. I am taking 125 levothyroxine at the moment but have only been on them for 4 weeks. I would be interested to hear what anyone has to say about this situation

Is it safe to take Biotin Supplements to try and promote hair growth & reduce thinning.
Hi! Can anyone in the know about vits & supplements advise or give their thoughts on taking Biotin supplements please... My hairstylist has recommended me taking it to help with my hair thinning, but I have read it can alter your blood test results, so I am presuming rightly or wrongly, that it can change

Hi, so glad I found this site
Hi everyone, I was diagnosed a week ago with under active thyroid after taking radiation iodine back in October for Graves’ disease, to say I’ve had a bad couple of months is an understatement but finding this forum is going to help me a lot I hope, I’ve been put on 75mg levothyroxine only 6 days in

Iodine
Hi A quick summary, I had a partial thyroidectomy 20+ years ago. Currently take T4 and T3. But I also have to take calcium because of low blood levels. I take seaweed calcium because I’ve read it’s better for bones (I have low bone density), but I’ve just noticed it contains iodine. And I’ve seen

Thyroxine/iodine
Hi - I no longer have my thyroid and my last bloods were in the normal range. I just bought some multi vitamins which have 100% RDA of iodine from kelp. Is this OK to take??

3x Hyperthyroid relapses, what is next?
as the title suggests, I am 36 years old. I had 3x relapses of hyperthyroid (Graves disease) over the last 7 years, I have been using carbimazole as treatment. The first treatment lasted almost 2 years, the second is 1.5 years and I just started the 3rd treatment. The consultant is suggesting this time

What should I do?
I had RAI on 08/31/2021 due to swallowing issues. My latest labs were drawn on 02/02/2022 and are as follows: TSH 9.31 (.465-4.68) T4 .54 (.78-2.19) T3 3.7 (2.8-5.3) I had been on 5 mg Methimazole since early December. I saw an NP and I think she's a fairly new graduate. She wanted me to cut the

Hey everyone, Thyrotoxic multinodular goitre 2018, RAI 2019, hypothyroid/desperate/suffering ever since :)! Have tried T4 monotherapy, T4/T3 combo, and have managed to achieve pretty 'optimal' on paper thyroid results using Levo 75mcg T3 37.5mcg: TSH 0.08 mU/L (Range:

Cholesterol Trending High / Graves and on Levo
Good Afternoon, I was wondering if Cholesterol becoming high has a correlation with people with Graves and on replacement hormone? I am fairly active and since I been DX'd with Graves and had RAI it seems my cholesterol is trending high and my glucose is getting in the upper normal range.. Satins and

Graves Post RAI
Good Morning, I was wondering with the members here who had RAI to treat their Graves, How often do you get blood work after? like every 3 or 6 months? Also what bloods do you recommend? reason I am asking is because I was feeling great for awhile and now I am feeling like crap again! My head has a

Levothyroxine absorption variability??
Hi all, my GP had recently written to my Endo with evidence to suggest that i'm not converting T4 to T3 very well since RAI. I had provided my GP with all of my blood tests prior to RAI and prior to going back on block and replace to show a comparison of what my "normal levels" were before being solely

Overactive thyroid medication
Hi just need some reassurance if I’m ok to continue what I’m doing. I’ve been diagnosed with an overactive thyroid since March 2013. I’ve had several other medication initially & I’m currently on 2.5mg of carbimazole every 2days. Shall I continue? I’m just slightly concerned when I catch a virus that

Suddenly Hyperthyroid again
I had RAI in 2000 when I was severely hyper. I was put on 150mcgs and did well on that dose with no issues for 20 years. Went gluten free a few years ago. All of a sudden became severely hyper again with a TSH of 0.002 So they lowered me to 137mcgs. Still hyper with 0.09. During that time I had panic
