Rope Flow Friday - Back to basics: Overhand, Underhand, Matador, Propeller

I started walking on my indoor treadmill yesterday, and that meant I kind of got out of the pattern of doing a bit of rope flow before heading out for a walk outside!

So I must find away to ensure I’ve got some convenient times of the day where I can grab my rope.

When last I did some 5 minutes, I focussed on simple flows and turning my body this and that way. It is amazing to feel how quickly one gets used to what is called the cardinal law.

This following video, by someone who just wanted to share it without friends and family, is still helping me with that. And I really like it’s very unassuming, down-to-earth, and calm nature:

Hi CBDB

Happy Flow day 😀. Thank you for posting (you have been busy with posts today!) . Great video, as you say - calm manner and also clear explanations.

This week I have focused on getting the underhand figure of eight correct and I feel this is embedded now.✅ I have also worked on the Dragon roll, which is still better on one side, but improving. I can also do Sneak on both sides but again one side is better 😀

Things I have learnt this week:

1. practising with a shorter, lightweight rope is great indoors (especially good if weather is bad)

2. It is best to practise the movement with no rope at first, just moving the hands into the correct positions, then holding rope in one hand and repeating lots of times.

3. Practising for just 5 minutes regularly is better than a longer session less frequently.

4. Watching myself in the conservatory window helps! (I usually practise on the garden decking)

One funny thing to share….. Squiggy gets excited when he sees the rope and woofs, and woofs 😂 I have to stop and play tug with him - with his own rope!!

Next week I am going to focus on transitions and changing direction (as shown in the video 😊) .

Thanks again CBDB have fun Rope Flowing 👍
