Put your back into it... yeah, right!
Good morning folks... welcome to the Changing Room...
Yes I know, I am late again! Please forgive me...life is a tad hectic right now... with loads of appointments for Mr OF...
But...I am here, fresh as a daisy... well almost, after a short session of Yoga with Adriene. A gentle wake up session, slow and relaxed, with some wonderful directional breathing to finish.
It is a good way to begin each day, even before I am out of bed... and the more robust stretches follow.
Reading the posts on the forums this last week, there have been a few mentions of those two villains, Niggle and Twinge ! ( See my previous post)! They are being extremely cunning right now, trying to hide behind other illnesses, like coughs, colds etc. etc. But what they really are causing grief with... our backs!
Mainly the lower back, and I too, have been aware of a slight discomfort in that area, over this last week !
I am older and I am , mostly, I am aware that I cannot do at 73 something I did at 30! Lifting and carrying can prove an issue... and I do have to remind myself to take care with how I lift and how heavy things are. An hour or so spent painting can cause my lower back to ache too..leaning over my board , in one position whist I work. I have fished out my easel now and I have accepted that is comfier ! After my Art class though, the back does protest... so I shall take a cushion, next week!
I have new heel pads for my shoes, as my others were worn flattish... that is reducing impact for me, when moving and I an feeling the benefit in my lower back. Field running too, rather than pavement pounding... my proper waking shoes instead of my ordinary flats. Small changes, but with a big benefits!
On this forum, there are many links for exercise, for each part of our body, but I am going to put here, just a few more links for other ideas.
As always, if you have any issue with your back that are causing pain that does not ease, or go away, even after some gentle exercises, then do. please, seek expert advice.
If you are given exercises by your Sports physio' then do, please, follow their advice. We are not medical experts at all, just runners, like you!
This is a good link, I feel, with a lot of useful information...

This one.. simple, easy to do exercises... and I can tell you the knee rocks, are so useful!

Yoga with Adriene... well many of us use the sessions with her a lot. They are, even if you are not a fanatical Yoga fan, very very useful. She often gives alternatives to certain moves and the levels of her sessions, mean there is something there for all. She does a particularly good one for lower back pain.
I have used the one for lower back pain and she does one for Lower Back Love... and Lower back sciatica!

Here is a post too, that I put out a while back..

So...if you have time... and if you have had, or are struggling a bit with back issues, pop in and share with us... It can be useful to read advice from links, but the experiences of our fellow runners, ( although each of us is very different) , can be really helpful too.
Looking forward to welcoming you here, on this very chilly morning . The changing room is warm, as is the welcome and I do look forward to welcoming you.
