Now this one...we all need to do...

Hello people.

Here I am again, clocking in with my progress. Just a short one today, but I feel, certainly for me, an important one.

This morning followed a bit of a broken night...the weather was really warm and 10.30 found me, bleary eyed,, searching for a large cool sheet.... !

Asleep just after 11, we did manage to sleep. Although fitfully.

Today.... well... a bit of a busy start with yet another early appointment for Mr OF …. so... a short YWA to start and a shortened version of the Tibetan rites.... squats done and then...on we go. Job done.

But today, the rest of the day, was a day for me, that is as important as any of the exercise or active days... today was going to be a rest day.

Because the one thing that we all need to do, every bit as much as those all important strength and stamina exercises. is...

...Rest

A simple enough word, and yet...some of us do find it hard to use and to act on .

I feel a real need to rest right now...my reserves are still low and I am trying to build them up. The physical and the mental ones. I know that if I am overtired, I find things, and because I have been practising my breathing exercises, I am really glad that they are helping me sleep.

Now why we need rest, is simple too...we all talk about how important it is, but so many of us do, actually ignore it,

If we don't rest...our body does not perform well or our mind either.

We have to learn to listen to our body, recognise the signs of over-tiredness and pay attention when it says... ease up, slow down, stop... rest.

Now, how you rest is your choice... and mine today...was to prep' a lazy, but healthy, lunch for Mr OF, my daughter and small runner in training. They came and we ate and talked and talked and ate.

After lunch;

Daughter tucked into a chair with a pile of old mags, Mr OF retired for his compulsory afternoon rest and small one and I? We played... all afternoon! I was relaxed, happy and as un- anxious as I could be.

They left for home late afternoon and I felt content, at ease and completely rested.

Your choice of rest, will be different. Reading, napping, just sitting and staring into space...or.... chilling, with back to back box sets.

The important thing is that you are not exercising. Your body and your mind needs time to recover, refresh and recharge.

Simple !

I am hoping, ( all prepared with a sheet for heat), to sleep easy tonight.... and the thought for me today, is that resting is not a sign of weakness, it is fueling the strength and the stamina, that will carry me forward in the days that follow.

I hope everyone sleeps or rests easy...x

See you tomorrow x

Little ones are the best medicine aren't they Floss.

Seeing things through their eyes and feeling your heart glowing with love and pride you forget your troubles in their company.

It is warm at night isn't it, but rather that than the consistant rain we have all had of late.

I hope that you and Mr OF do get out for a walk, and maybe that picnic this weekend.

Glad to hear you feel rested today.

Yes, another step forward.

🌾xxx

Hello!

The small ones... the best cure for self worry.... oh yes. The pure joy they bring is priceless...Small one and I lose ourselves completely.

I am enjoying the sunshine so much, it lifts the spirits and brings a positivity that just seeps inside you...certainly for me. I think Mr OF and I will head out on Monday for a walk and a picnic.... it is raining now and set for all day and tomorrow!

I am planning a few things today, ( watch this space), and finishing my hare painting this afternoon.... that will be another period of welcome rest !

On we go, my friend.... thank you for being here for me... x

That is a lovely photo Oldfloss, I do agree that sleep and rest is very important although it is sometimes difficult in hot weather conditions, that's why keeping well hydrated is so important, I am so glad that Mr Oldfloss is now keeping well again and rests every afternoon.

Morning Al...it is one taken at my happy place at Criccieth,,, I thought the cloud looked like a giant bird!

You are right... the humid nights do make sleep almost impossible, and hydration.... always.... even on rest days.

Mr OF is progressing... and he is still needing those rests...but the time he sleeps in the afternoon is lessening! Thank you!

Hope you and Loki are getting on together well x

Yes Loki and I are getting to know each other very well indeed Floss, he is settling down in his new home, the other day I found him sleeping in the handwash basin in the bathroom, luckily the tap wasn't on😊🙀

I am just getting ready for my 91st parkrun, I am being driven by a friend in his car who lives just down the road at No. 44, I live at No. 53, the parkrun is at Palacerigg Country Park only 10 minutes by car to get there

There was a photographer at Palacerigg Country Parkrun This morning, my result hasn't come through yet, probably around 35 minutes, once it comes I will tell you, there was light rain during the run but it didn't amount to much, I got a lift to it and back home where I was greeted by Loki my new all white cat.

My result came through a little later than normal, I was on the right side of 35 minutes, my time was 34:41.

lovely. It sounds like time spent with the little one provided that shift in activity and thinking patterns, that gives one’s body and mind a rest.

it does make me ponder.

I do have to really force myself a day of rest from working out.

Specifically with indoor rowing, where you do not have the rule of leaving a day of recovery between rows, I often find myself so desiring to row that 7th day of the week but consciously having to say no.

Our bodies do need recovery days from running, from walking, also rowing or doing any regular exercise. And our minds also sometimes need to be helped to switch to something else. Harder than it sounds.

Thank you!

Good morning!

It is good to remind ourselves how important those rest days are and we do have to really try sometimes. You have a busy exercise schedule I know... and your rowing is so important to you. Just finding a way, or a day, when you can pencil that in on your exercise sheet!

I slept...like the proverbial, log, last night ..my rest day did the trick! x
