Workout: MVTM with Cailin, where “The Mountains are Calling"

🧘‍♂️Lazy Sunday! Great for Pilates which looks lazy due to its sitting and lying positions, but it’s definitely working out your bodily structures. And as I’ve been prattling to my husband about how Pilates is different to Yoga, I was able to persuade him to experience what I was talking about and join me in this 30 min Beginner Pilates workout.

🦿MVMT with Cailin is the YouTube channel of Cailin Santos, a Pilates accredited trainer from the east coast of the US. She has a fully equipped studio in North Carolina where she practices equipment Pilates, yes that kind of equipment that does remind one of torture constructions, but which - if you see the videos - makes sense in how it uses springs and hanging structures to help movements of limbs that have weaknesses, as well as being able to provide more resistance to those muscles which are already strong but need more toning.

🦵I came across MVMT through her mat-based workouts for pain relief, specifically the one for knee strength. It became my favourite goto knee workout of all I have tried. I still do it one or twice a week.

🍂Back in autumn I had actually seen her new 10-day series "The Mountains are Calling" pop up, and it just looked too inviting too not put it onto my list of workouts to try.

🏞The series starts with a first day of 30minutes beginners or grounding Pilates on a mat, but it was filmed with 2 fellow Pilati (not sure what you call Pilates exercisers) in a gorgeous outside surroundings of North Carolina.

🧎🏻‍♂️The series progressively moves from beginner to advanced in 10 episodes and I think I will do the first one until I feel more confident with some moves. My specific challenge is always related to my knees, so kneeling positions or those where your knees have to bear my weight can be painful and problematic. But in these episodes one of her fellow Pilati has also sensitive knees, and Cailin suggests other positions that address more sensitive knees. That person also seems to be slightly less flexible which actually helps me in finding my own alternative movements where my knees cannot cope with the movements suggested by Cailin.

🕺🏼👯‍♀️💃🏽And it is just lovely to spend half an hour up there with her and her 2 friends in the mountains. It certainly is a workout I will return to, and I really would like to experience the whole series at some point when my body is ready.

🌄So if you’re new to Pilates and have yet to find that persuasive instructor that can be as charming as Adriene with her Yoga, I think Cailin is it for me with Pilates, specifically in this series where the backdrop just adds that extra beauty for mindfulness.

Happy working out everyone!
