Taking a little bit of Home on my long run 😍

For anyone currently following Adriene's 30 day yoga journey, Home, you'll remember standing on the mat trying to imagine lifting all the way up the front of your body, while grounding all the way down the back (it might be a familiar concept from other yoga teachings, or maybe other disciplines too).

Well I began to get a bit raggedy at times during my long run today ... and I thought of how much stronger I feel on the mat. I started to imagine at the front, and grounding at the back .... and boy did it make a difference! It turns out I was proper slumping πŸ™„. I consciously revisited the thought half a dozen times and each and every time it made a difference. I think I need to make a habit of that to try to undo a slumping habit I hadn't realised I'd developed 😍. I even wondered if it might improve my race photos πŸ€ͺ

Try it some time - I'd love to hear it's not just me ... 🀣🀣🀣.

I beginning to think there's a lot to be said for this yoga malarkey 😍

Well done on being aware during your run, you're very good at paying attention to your running form as a result of your cross training. I only jumped on the yoga bandwagon on your recommendation, don't be calling it malarky now hahaha!

I was horribly unaware how bad my posture was until I started thinking in those terms 😍.

I think it's good malarkey if that helps any ..... πŸ€ͺ

Interesting! A good tip to try, thanks. Maybe I could even dip into the yoga malarkey ... 😊🀣

I have been finding it's helped my confidence a lot to run tall. I figure that if I'm slumping forward and I trip on something, I'm more likely to end up faceplanting. But if I'm upright with a strong core then I might be able to save myself. My husband poo-pooed this idea, of course πŸ˜‚

I'm sure that's particularly reassuring after your recent experience! I'm just imagining what my husband would say if he heard any of Adriene's spiel πŸ™„πŸ˜‚

I'll give this a try today as I have during some of my runs remembered what Jo Wiley and Michael Johnson say about imagining running on one side of a hedge. So I then 'stand tall' and realise I have been slumping too!

I often remember that too. Good luck. It's such an easy thing to check in with πŸ™‚
