Hello everyone,
Hope you are all managing to get out and walk in this lovely sunshine? Shame it is so cold now. We were spoilt with those few lovely warm sunny days earlier.
I have consulted privately with a consultant about having the above operation. At first he thought we could get away with a partial knee replacement and had lots of x rays to see what was going on in side the knee joint. From the x rays it looked like there was only arthritis on one side so a partial knee would be the way to go. However, because he couldn't be 100% sure with x rays and obviously if once he got in to do a partial knee replacement and found he needed to do a full replacement it would be too late to do this type of knee replacement I asked for an MRI to be done to ascertain this for certain. Unfortunately, there is a small amount of arthritis showing on the other side of the knee so it is going to be a total knee replacement. Have managed to come to a suitable date for the surgery as 28th August 2019 with the pre- assessment and physio on 19th August.
Just wondering if there is any one who has had this operation so that I know what to expect as regards recovery - though I know we are all different. I am glad we couldn't find a suitable date until August as it give sme time to strengthen my muscles ready for the operation so I also wonder if anyone who has had a knee replacement of any sort could advise me on the type of exercises I could do prior to the operation. I try and get to the gym 3 times a week sometimes more and do as much as I can. Today I couldn't manage to cycle as the knee pain was so bad but did manage the treadmill and rowing machine for a while and also some resistance work. Just wonder if there are any particular exercises I should be doing. Any other advice on what to do would be appreciated - ie what to make sure I have out to wear shoe and clothes wise and any helpful hints would be most appreciated.
Thanks
