Biofreeze gel or spray helps me during the day. Walking or swimming at the pool helps loosen tight muscles

Thats good to hear. The nearest indoor pool that offers water exercise is a 30 mile drive, Im trying to convince myself Im worth it to make the effort to go there 2 x weekly

Hi Calvin, I have tried Glucosamine Sulphate tablets but found that even though I was taking the recommended 2000mg per day for 2 years they did not work. Omega 3,6,and 9 fish oils 1000mg work well for me. Ibuprofen gel works very well and as the recommended usage is 3 times per day I have found this works enabling me to cut out pain relief tablets during the day. I have used a hot shower spray which also helps too. But for me it is still aqua aerobics which helps me the most. Maximonkey

I quit taking fish oil as I grew wearly of " popping pills" but maybe I should get them back out. I love how ibprufen works but my cardiologist doesnt want me using it, messes with my meds, blood thinner.

Hi Hoski, I only use the gel very rarely when I cannot exercise or when the damp gets in. I am on warfarin and suffer from Atrial Fibrilation so like you i couldn't use it every day. I have had cortisone injections in both knees twice but I believe docs do not like doing these injections unless all else fails. My hubby had one last week and it has worked. I cannot take nonsteroidal meds anymore but my fav used to be naproxen. Now I dont take anything, but pain is much less, often no pain. I think what has made the biggest difference is improving my knee range of motion, building muscles using my exercise bike. It was a slow process that probably took 6 mo over last winter. At first could barely get my knee to bend to pedal. Now I can easily do 45 min with resistance up to 4 on 0-10 range.

Vitamin D....but prescribed by rhumey doctor in bigger doses..I take fish oils, but take a break from them at times...and calcium with magnesium...I change my shoes often as i can(for good tread), and I use cushioned insoles as much as i can too...

Not found anything other than medication to relieve the pain, when I get it. Around about a year or so ago I was eating plenty of sardines and other ally fish in the hope they would help all that seemed to do was give me gout and make the pain worse. When l stopped the "extra" pain went away, which I was very greatful for. I have found really good footwear with cushioned insoles does help a lot. Also cycling everywhere doesn't impact the knee joints in the way walking does, but is not much good when on the stairs!!!

Not too many Calvin. The docs had said to take painkillers for the pain and also glucosamine with chondroitin capsules ( which didn’t help much). I manage by keeping active about the house, doing meditation, not walking more than half to 1 km at a time, and keeping weight under control - the last easier said than done!

I think you have to take the glucosamine and Chondroitin long term to feel any benefit. I give it to my 2 dogs and one overcame 'clicky hips' . Getting on for 13 neither have any sign of arthritis but they've been on G&C for many years, 7 or 8 at least.

nothing other than pain killers . mine is sciatic as it only bothers me when i lie down .

Keeping it warm and doing exercises. I eat omega 3 capsules, rosehip powder and msm.

Magnesium, selenium, turmeric, hempseed oil and an Ayurveidic medicine made for painful joints. Gel insoles make a huge difference. Whoever invented them should get a medal.

I've found sugar triggers pain big time so am cutting out refined sugar. No more homemade flapjacks for me 😢

I found Superdrug's own were as good as more expensive ones. They sometimes have them on offer.

I’ve tried hot and cold compresses; tubigrip bandages and physiotherapy and now doing hydrotherapy exercises.

I have been to a chiropractor multiple times which seems to help for a certain amount of time.

I have knee and foot arthritis. I was first told to lose weight - which I did. This takes longer than the physician realizes as it is hard to exercise when your foot and knees hurt. But I found that riding a bike helps. I can't take NSAIDs so I was taking Tylenol for the pain. This didn't work so well so I now take tramadol as needed - prescribed by my doctor. I try to limit the medications that I take as arthritis is a chronic disease and I will need to take care of myself over the long term.

I use some voltarol/diclofenac gel at times as I am not allowed to take diclofenac tablets due to heart condition. Use movelat gel as well, TENS Unit and various exercises. Take omega 3 and all sorts of supplements - tried MSM - when you still got it from the Vet! All sorts of Glucosamine but not really sure they actually made a difference. Keeping mobile is key for me and cycling I am told is the best to strengthen the knee so try to do a little every day. Try and walk a little too - wearing my fit bit so that I know when I have reached my 10,000 steps - usually manage that every day. Must try and get into the pool but seem to be so busy with going to cardio rehab and other appointments I don't get a chance! At the moment night times are bad as I just suddenly get spasm like pain and cramps which can keep me awake - coupled with back and neck pain at the same time I don't get much sleep and end up walking around to try and ease the spasm. Looking forward to next Wednesday when I go to the physio to try and find out what is causing the cramping spasms as the orthopaedic consultant and my GP do not think this is caused by my knee - so getting rid of one of the pains or knowing what its source is will hopefully help as this cramping down my lower leg is the worst at the moment.
