I have been suffering heartburn and acid constantly for this past month to the extent that ive not been eating that much, as it seemed that everything i put in my mouth even a cup of green tea, gave me this horrible feeling.A piece of toast with no butter, anything everything and nothing it was pretty bad so i looked up alkaline foods and found that an avocado a fruit i absolutly dislike was full of goodness so needless to say off i went to shop bought 1 and ate it with some celery sticks the nxt morning i ate as normal the rest of day and no heartburn.. so this past 3 days iv made a banana and avocado smoothie with soya milk and ive been eatin crisps chocolate along with a gd dinner and i have not even had a slight touch of heartburn..today i bought some more avocados i think being alkaline they have definately balanced out acid in my stomach thats why i wanted to share this incase any1 wants to give it a go..google avocado smoothies or benifits an see what u think for urself...im a wee bit happier.. enjoying my food today!!

Thanks for that I will get some and give it a try

Interesting. I have previously been in a really dangerous area with my kidneys. I managed to get back to a more stable situation doing similar things.

When you have poor kidney function they give you a list of different foods that are better or worse to eat. I think it also correlates to a large degree with how acid or akaline a food is.

My kidney function has improved a bit and since then I have relaxed my eating disciplines. But maybe there is something for us all to learn and adhere to if acid/akaline imbalances can maybe cause the reflux.

I do believe that Gaviscon is very alkaline by the way. Maybe thats why it is prescribed.

Anything with calcium should help as Calcium is an Alkali. Drink plenty of milk. Is there any reason you're avoiding the stuff? O.o Staying away from citrus fruits would help.

Here's some tips on the foodstuffs you should look towards.

More of a list really, but never mind!

I was trying to find my old link but I think you are using the same one. I used to rely a great deal on the listings there.

Hopefully the list will be of use to others

Awh thanks Timbo.. I just think this site for me has been a God send with so many understanding like minded peolpe whom i can ask anything and pour out my feelings when im worried ..and get great advice and comfort knowing that im not on this journey alone.. so yes iv been looking at alkaline foods and will try anything..maybe if u have worse reflux at night you could try taking an avocado smoothie after your dinner ,make it the last thing you eat b4 bed..but definatly check out alkaline foods i hope you can sleep better soon..:-)

Of course remember to take the stone out first or you will create all manner of different problems :-)

LOL its a really big stone.. i was a bit surprised when i seen it on my first avocado.. i had forgotten it had one.. its like a feckn golf ball!!

Just looking at the list and the foods in various categories.....(on the list)

If it can be suggested that acid is a repeat that moves up the tract. Then taking alkaline things such as sprouts and onions may cause a reaction that moves down the tract.

Do you think I might be onto something? This could be a mini research project :-)

Avocadoes have lots of Vitamin E also, which is very good for the skin and nails ! Lemons are meant to be good at restoring acid / alakalis balance, I have to disguise the juice in a smoothie ! I love the raw for beauty website which provides lots of info on the nourishing and nutrient properties of fresh fruit and veg ! rawforbeauty.com. as well as Edgar Cayce, who was healing people from scleroderma in the 1920s in America advocated a specific diet for healing and allowing the body to restore itself :)

yay ! another well being activist ;) can I ask what ingredients you use in your avocado smoothie? I tried it a few times in my daily green juice but didnt really like the texture ... so I have a half every other day with a green salad, tomatoes, red onions etc I have really noticed a difference - my nails feel stronger, and my hair has grown quicker as well as being quite shiny... or maybe thats my rose tinted glasses haha :)

yes of course..well i bought a small box of maybe 40bluberries one banana half an avocado little sprinkle of tumeric then i juice a piece of ginger but only add a wee drop and keep the rest in fridge to add on the following days ..its so overpowering and can ruin a drink if u add too much ..i use soya milk to thin it all out just because its better for you that cows milk... then i just drink it for my breakfast..later on this week ive been makn horrilbe veg drinks from reduced veg too.. i bought winter greens brochili celery spinach apples and carrots u dont get much juice from heads of broc more from the stems so ive been getn reduced ones ..u will need a few of them. If i make a drink i dont like I just drink it as i know its gd for me.Tumeric ginger cinamin caynenne pepper and a wee bit of honey made into a paste take a teaspoon of it and add to a avocado smoothie. My nails are a disaster i cant get them to grow..mabe its because nutrients aren't getn to them and maybe the sun with its vit D cant get throu my big thermal gloves that are constantly worn so ive been trying to get extra nutrients into me ..have u any tips for broken weak nails?

They say cucumber is gd for nails...?

btw - thanks for sharing :) x

As far as I know nails are a reflection of your state of health. I went through a very bad time a few years ago for a few years. But now my nails are much better, nearly normal.

As there appears to be a few in this thread who are interested in food related remedies I thought you may like to see this link I came across.

Interesting point made at about 2:30

Obviously it is as well to be aware that 'home chemistry' which is what this seems to be could react with any meds you are taking. So be aware and dont just follow any steps without care.
