I don't have Barretts Oesophagus but I am slightly familiar with what it is. It can occur on it's own, or with Scleroderma. More info here sclero.org/medical/symptoms...

I have both Raymauds and Barrits esophagus. It occurs due to the Scleroderma, it can affects the tissue or organs in the body.,,Layla has left a great link for you..The scleroderma foundation has a great website with great books and rsourses.

Thank you Berna , as I suspected the scleroderma is the cause... I was diagnosed Janury 2004 so I feel blessed that so far the main issue have been chronic Raynauds...

Do you have to have regular screening for cell change for the Barretts?

Yes Barrett's can be part of scleroderma or can occur on its own. It is mainly caused by the acid reflux which we scleroderma sufferers suffer from regularly. Polyps form in the oesophaguus which need to be biopsied when you have an endoscopy and if they are benign which they usually are, it probably won't get any worse - just needs checking every two years or so. Try not to worry about it.
