Can anyone identify with this. I was diagnosed with Limited Scleroderma 16 years ago and yesterday i suffered a severe Raynaud's attack which went on for hours and afterward my muscles felf very sore and tender and they are still the same today. Any insight would be appreciated.

Perhaps a lactic acid build up from muscle contraction from the blood supply not being very good. Bit like running a race, but without running it!

I have an massage wand that is electric and I have grabbed that quickly to massage my hurting areas, and as CardiffLady, I try to keep those areas warm. The wand helps to circulate my blood and I seem to overcome the pain a bit sooner. I usually take a battery operated small massage wand in my tote bag when I leave home, just to be on the safe side. Have been using a massage wand since the mid 80s, long before I was diagnosed with Scleroderma and Raynauds. I practice Yoga and find it to be a soothing and preventive maintenance approach. Wishing you comfort Sylvana.

How much relief do you get with the massage wand? From a curious sufferer. Ta.

Thank you so much Thelma. I will certainly try a massage wand.

Are you seriously saying you whip out a massage wand when your Raynauds is playing up? In public? My kids would murder me!

Good Morning Friends: This is Thelma kindly communicating more details, answering your question and commenting.

CardiffLady: I have a high tolerance for pain, however, I have had such awful muscle spasms at night (which i have learned have evolved from potassium deficiency at times) that my massage wand has been a great help - and by having it right by my bed. I have been in tears with pain; then I prop my legs up on pillows, then rub my legs with Sports Cream (one good one is Icy Hot) and then place towels on my legs and turn on the electric massage wand. Sometimes it takes about 20 minutes to get relief and sometimes it takes about 10 min. on average to feel improvement. I highly believe that it is essential to keep the tools that work for us readily available to comfort and bring ourselves to relief as quick as possible for our medical discomforts and problems. And as I mentioned, I take a mini massage wand which I last purchased from Brookstone Stores. Their stores are located in various malls and carry massage chairs, food care tools, special reading lights and the latest comfort gadgets -- they describe with their online website as to carry 'Unique Gifts and Solutions'.

Living in the DC/MD/VA area, you've probably heard the repeats of our traffic gridlocks with commuting in this area. I was fortunate for years to be close to my job and then during the mid 90s I became one of those commuters - a 21 mile drive,, which could take up to 1.5 hrs. I purchase a mini massager - and did I start massaging my neck from strain and being so erect with concentration from the drive???? You bet I did. VanessaJoanne, I was exposed to the home of the future of exercise in the early 60s. My Dad was a former amateur boxer and a martial arts instructor outside of his regular job. He was walking up and down our 14 steps several nights a week 50 times, "stepping", before the popular stepping fitness by Fitness Guru Gin Miller and Reebok was even birthed. He was using a hand-held massager then to massage is shoulder and get my Mom to massage his back for he lifted weights and was active into leisure sports. He stressed the important of yoga and massages way back then and especially for those who exercised and lifted weights. I have seen commuters apply makeup in traffic, shave in traffic and text in recent years, but folks have always been active in a car. I never found it embarrassing to massage my neck and shoulders with one hand and have the other hand on the wheel performing a healthy routine to get me through those grueling gridlocks. Sometimes cars are sitting and sitting in the traffic and it wears on the nerves and muscles. Having my little mini massager has given me comfort on the job to avoid wrist and hand strain through the years . . . yet I wasn't diagnosed with CREST/Scleroderma/Raynauds until 2008 - however, my Rheumo Specialist stated in 2009 that at my level I was stricken with these illnesses 15 years prior. We got to put the puzzle pieces together of my symptoms through those prior years. I have experienced two several hospital stays and the last one in 2008 I was in a coma and on life support, and the doctors and physical therapist all stated that my body reflected years of care and strong bone density which aided me strongly with being able to bounce back; they stated the same thing during my lengthy hospital stay in 2005. I have been a cheerleader to physical fitness and being bold with practicing healthy approaches and proper comfort with decency no matter where I am. I've witnessed people suffering on jobs, not eating on schedule, always depending on the cafeteria or exiting to restaurants for their lunch break in various weather conditions, and complaining all the while. When it comes to being focused on good health, it takes times to make sure we have healthy snacks packed when we're on the go, taking a tool such as a mini massage wand if we're going to be absent from home and placed in stress type situations like long commutes. Feeling bad affects peoples' moods oftentimes - and I have felt the good feelings of exercise and healthy practices for so long - these illnesses are so unfortunate, but I refuse to have anything or anyone to influence me from my healthy practices. I can only speak for myself, however, I thought I would just share these experiences, my thoughts and what has worked for me. I do wish you the best with your choices, with comfort and conquering whatever medical challenges and discomforts you may have. ------- Sylvana; You are most welcome and I hope that you will be pleased with your wand selection and have better comfort with this new-found healthy practice. I have faith that you will. - Gaiam.com is another health and fitness website that you may be interested in observing.

I wish each of you a blessed and comfortable day and week ahead. Take good care. :-)
