I was diagnosed with Raynaurd's some 20 + years ago, recently in say last six months, I've woke up from sleeping on left side to not feeling anything in my right arm. I literally have to use my other arm to move my right arm, allowing circulation back into it, but with horrendous pain.
As of yet I haven't visited my gp regarding this, but now on my right arm, upper I have constantly got what can only be described as a heaviness , which is causing pins and needles from above elbow down to fingers.
could this be liunked to raynaurd's and really I suppose is it worth seeing a GP or just a waste of time for NHS or myself, as I'm a 24/7 carer.
Thanks in advance

whether or not it’s linked to your Raynaud’s no one here can say but It’s definitely something you should report to a GP. For what it’s worth it sounds quite similar to how things started for me 14 years ago, a year prior to my sudden onset of Raynaud’s in my late 40s. Your GP should test you for inflammation as well as run a full blood count and anti nuclear antibodies/ ANA. There may be other issue(s) with wear & tear arthritis causing a trapped nerve or impingement. But given you already have Raynaud’s they should run checks for autoimmune diseases rather than just assuming it’s a trapped nerve. You might have to ask for tests or even insist. This is especially important given that you’re a 24/7 carer. Best of luck xx
I get this in my hands at night , wake up with one or the other dead and have to manipulate them to get them going. My rheumatologist ordered a neck MRI and a nerve conduction test in my arms. I had the later on Tuesday but he couldn’t find a trapped nerve that may have been cause. Said could be wear and tear but nothing trapped , when test done. But this only happens at night when I lie down, the test I had was in a sitting position. MRI showed degeneration in neck and narrowing but again nothing trapped. Go back to Rheumatologist in February for his interpretation ,advice and next steps.
I would mention it to your GP ,can be various causes and worth getting it accessed.
If you are a side sleeper it’s probably more than likely that you have had an acute nerve entrapment and /or occluded the circulation to the limb. I’m a side sleeper and used to get this often until I started using a special cervical pillow. It’s very alarming when it happens so totally understand your anxiety. Not sure if it’s Raynauds. Do you have elbow pain? I have tendinitis in my elbow that causes pain, pins and needles and numbness but it’s scleroderma fibrosis and RSI (repetitive strain injury) related not Raynauds.
I completely understand what you’re experiencing because I’ve been through something very similar. For me, it all started when I suspected I needed to be tested for ANA, and my Raynaud’s symptoms began. I’ve recently adopted the AIP (Autoimmune Protocol) diet, and while it’s still early days, I’ve noticed some small improvements. It’s definitely challenging—weight loss is almost inevitable—but I genuinely recommend it to anyone, whether they have an autoimmune disease or not, and especially for those who do.
I’m currently taking Nifedipine for my Raynaud’s. Are you on any medication for yours?
Regarding your symptoms, it’s definitely worth mentioning this to your GP. While Raynaud’s can contribute to circulation issues, the numbness, heaviness, and pins and needles might point to something else, like nerve compression or poor blood flow that could benefit from treatment or lifestyle adjustments. I know it’s hard as a full-time carer to prioritise your health, but these symptoms sound significant enough to warrant a check-up. You deserve care, too.
Many thanks to those that replied, apologises for the lateness of writing back, life's busy, from a couple of peoples comments it could be due to a neck injury I had a few years ago, but its probably best to get it checked out via a GP, as much I don't want to. Anyway thanks again to everyone
