As summer is already gone 😞 ….the cold nightmare is around the corner. I struggle finding a good winter coat that can be practical, cosy, keep warm. Do you have any recommandations ? Thank you ❤️wish you all to stay safe and healthy !

I bought a Ronan padded coat three winters ago and it's the warmest coat ever. At £200 it was expensive but worth it. It has a detachable hood and is below the knee length. Cosy, cosy!!
definitely look for padded, and below the knee - thighs lose lots of warmth! Go for the best quality you can afford, down if possible though some of the synthetic ones are very good now. Waterproof outer.
If possible look for one by a good maker of outdoor clothes eg Patagonia, North Face or Rohan. Their job is to make sure fabric do the job well.
I’ve had a padded knee length Patagonia coat with a detachable raincoat outer for years. Transformational!
I have long line body warmer and then wear a padded coat over top of that easy layer keeps main body toasty
I now have a Dryrobe - it’s like wearing a duvet & has enabled me to go to places and do the things I want whilst keeping warm & dry. They are not cheap but I think it’s worth the investment for the gains in quality of life.
hey lovely, if cash is a bit tight Asda do some fantastically warm padded coats and they are waterproof . They are very reasonably priced so I have 2 😊x
strangely I was about to post asking exactly the same thing, having tried various stores yesterday as wanted to try it on first. So I’m now following and making a note of recommendations!
I have a couple of RAB jackets /coats. They are lightweight, non bulky but incredibly warm and wind proof/water repellent. If I’m out walking in the colder winter months I have a pair of ACAI thermal trousers as I find very long coats cumbersome. Layering thinner thermal layers is actual better than a couple of thick layers anyway. Being wind resistant is vitally important for me.
I find layering is better for me. A fleece or puffer jacket/gillet under a full length waterproof coat. Important to keep head, hands and feet warm too.
Keeping the core warm, as well as using great hats, gloves and socks are really important. I sometimes use the disposable hand warmers skiers use to protect my fingers in real cold. Lots of layers and always long thermal underwear tops and bottoms. Oddly I only get raynauds attacks in summer now
Another thought as people mention layering - I agree, several thin layers are better. Sept (usually - not this week!) - Oct and April-May I always have at least 1 pair of merino wool long johns on under my trousers. Nov-March never less than 2 pairs of long johns under winter trousers!
I have some fabulous battery heated gloves from Amazon. I got expensive ones! but am now on my 3rd year..I brought a battery spare pack, that I always take charged out with me. As on
high they only last about 4 hours...usually keep them on the middle one, lasting about 5 hours..
I use Blazewear. I really struggled a year or two ago to find UK based ones and my only ones from an EU country wouldn’t sell to UK anymore coz of the brexit trade regs. But Blazewear don’t have that problem (even though, like all of them, they actually arrive direct from China anyway!!)
Day wolf are my favourite..but the oldest and too big, use now for the gardening.... Using Barchi now who offered a smaller size for everyday use, shopping etc still fabulous....just go for good ones, worth every penny!
I started my hunt for a winter coat the other day too. I find the padded coats really uncomfortable, I'm allergic to wool to an extent, plus I am fashion obsessed so how it looks is important to me too. I don't like current fashions either, so that's another complication!
Although I react to wool, I find that a coat with roughly less than 3% wool doesn't cause me any problems but is also pretty warm. My current problem is that most coats I like are 40%+ wool. If you're fine with wool, then that's very warm alternative to padded coats. And also, I find wearing hats helpful to keeping the warmth in, as well as gloves.
