eye problems with Scleroderma

I was diagnosed with diffuse cutaneous scleroderma in 2018. Currently no treatment but I suffer with dry eyes which have become worse over the last few weeks very itchy and feel tender over the eye ball and eye lids also have dull headache over frontal area above eyes. Anyone have any suggestions? I’ve contacted my rheumatologist but am awaiting a response.

Until you get a prescription (hopefully) from your rheumatologist, there are lots of OTC eye moisturisers that may help. I use drops at night because that's when it really bothers me – "Artelac night eye drops" which I get from Superdrug.

I use Hycosan Extra - the red one. Ophthalmologist recommended. You can’t OD it so I use it whenever they feel dry. An SRUK webinar on eye health also suggested: using a heated eye mask for 10 mins or more when you get up and before bed (at least), ideally having first applied eye drops. And using room humidifiers once you’ve put the heating on - containers for water you hang on the radiator. Or bowls of water above the radiator. Keep them topped up. Esp in the bedroom.

hi magicmaz many thanks for this

I suffer with dry eyes too. Sometimes they are so bad, my vision is affected. I use Hycosan drops from the chemist and apply them whenever things get bad, several times a day.

I use Hyloforte eye drops during the day and Xalin nighttime gel at night..both now prescribed by GP. I originally bought the Hyloforte drops online. I have recently invested in a humidifier and a heated eyemask n both of them were worth every penny! 💜🌈😽😽Xx

hi I started with really bad dry eyes a few years ago and my GP said I needed to see an optician They immediately diagnosed dry eye and sent the details to my GP that day and I have a recurring prescription for Hyabak drops which are brilliant. It may be worth asking your optician to check your eyes if you can’t get in with your GP as opticians can also prescribe

I highly recommend Artelac eye drops by Bauch + Lomb who have been going for many, many years.

My eye specialist recommends using Artelac morning and evening even if I don’t have dry or scratchy eyes at the time - to irrigate them.

You can use as much on your eyes as you like. In fact you should bathe them well.

Easily available, also on Amazon. Which reminds me I must order some more!
