Hello, I'm from Argentina.

I developed shiny hands, this is a picture with flash. I don't think I have reynaud but I only find that shiny hands are a sign of scleroderma. I abused sanitazer because of covid but I don't think I have dermatitis.

Please help!

Hi NeonGlam,

Your fingers do look a little puffy and tight which can be a possible sign of Scleroderma, but there could be other reasons for this. As you are concerned you need to see firstly your local doctor and then get a referral to a Rheumatologist, hopefully a Specialist in Autoimmune Disorders. Write down any other symptoms however vague they may seem and try not to worry, not easy I know though! Thinking of you and best wishes.

Thank you for the reply!

I went to a local doctor that said I don't have shiny hands (but I do!!!) and also to a rheumatologist that said one of my fingers seems a little inflamed and ask for a hand X ray but the results were normal...

Today I'm going to a dermatologist because I'm so, so, so sure that my hands are shiny and wasn't this shiny before...

I have smooth and shiny skin in general but not like this, not the kind of shiny I have in the hands...

Hi NeonGlam,

My puffy tight shiny fingers tend to be worse in the morning when I wake, the swelling then tends to go down during the morning and especially if the temperature is cold. They then sometimes go quite wrinkly, my fingers sometimes swell again in the late afternoon / evenings.

Unfortunately depending on the time of my hospital appointments my puffy fingers have gone down, hence it then looks as if you don’t have a problem. Make sure you show these photos to your dermatologist. I’m also starting to have these white areas under the skin on my fingers and my GP recently said that they are calcinosis.

I’m still on the diagnosis path but have been told it is likely Limited Systemic Sclerosis. With my negative bloods this is making full diagnosis take longer so I do understand your frustration, it’s your body and you know when something is not normal. Have you had blood tests, if not hopefully the dermatologist will suggest this. Just remember though that negative bloods does not rule out Scleroderma, but hopefully you will get answers.

Let us know how you got on at your appointment, nobody wants Scleroderma but you need answers. Take care.
