Hello, I am new here, 84 yrs old and suffer from incredible itching on my scalp, on areas of eyelashes, eyebrows, armpits, pubic area and don't want to live any more due to exhaustion, don't sleep at all, nights are spent walking, itching and crying. Doctors cannot help, they tried every possible solution, nothing worked.
At the moment I am on Lymecyclin for 6 weeks, biopsy showed something and the dermatologist concluded Rosacea, still no any improvements with itching.
I am diagnosed with Scleroderma before they said Crest or Lupus.
I was on Hydroxychloroquine, stopped went caught Covid 3 months ago, itching hadn't improved then.
Anybody had the same or similar symptoms, please if you could help?
Many thanks!

Hi honeybug, I'm really sorry to hear that you have this itching. I had about 2 years of itching all over 20 years ago before I was eventually diagnosed with Scleraderma. The only way I could relieve it was with loads of greasy ointment. I still use Diprobase ointment every day. The itching seemed to just die off eventually. I was tested for liver problems and when they came back normal the GP just said there was nothing he could do. I hope you get some relief soon. There might be better drugs now. Have you tried antihistamines? Good luck xx
Please check under my last reply to you. A lovely lady named KatieAnna unknowingly replied to you but with the box to my reply. She has good things in it.
I preferred to tell you rather than embarrass her.
Thank you so much Honeybag, i noticed it and all of you have a great intentions and i am very grateful for your support! Lots of love from my side too, take care xxx 🥰
AdrianaB,I am so saddened to hear how low your condition is making you feel. I have bouts of horrible itching though on my body, arms and legs so I can understand how miserable it makes you feel. I get relief by not showering as often and like KatieAnna I use Diprobase, there is a large bottle of cream and a small tube of ointment. It probably won't be suitable for eyelashes so you might have to source something else that is oily - olive oil? When I do shower, it's quick and cooler and I pat dry rather than rubbing then apply cream to damp skin. This has made a great difference.
Please reach out to support groups such as the samaritans if you feel very low, just talking really helps.
I do hope you get relief soon. Sending hugs.
Karen
Just another thought, moisturising eye drops may help with the itching eyelashes.
I am so sorry your itching is having such a profound affect on your life. I can sympathise as I too have it on my scalp, eyebrows etc. It really isn’t easy to apply the usual creams to those areas and it effects my sleep too. I listen to world service radio during the night and it does distract me from thinking about the itching. I also fall asleep intermittently as i wake to find the programme has changed. I hope you can find some small things in life that will give you some pleasure and you fully recover from COVID. It’s not easy, perhaps you will improve as spring arrives. All my best wishes x
Thank you for your lovely reply and suggestion about distracting from itchiness. I will have to try it more as i did before but it turns that my itchiness distract me from listening. Rollercoaster. It is always so prominent in the night just before going to bed, probably with less distraction and quietness. I did recovered from Covid luckily although i was on the edge of loosing that battle. Trying to look at itchiness as secondary thing but it is hard.
Hi AdrianaB,I notice all the areas you descibe the itch are areas of hair.
I had an intense itching on the scalp some years back. Drove me insane, particularly at night.
I now use a shampoo called Kerastase Bain Riche Dermo-Calm. Worked a treat for me. Doesn't disclosure light hair as some scalp shampoos do. Maybe try this for the scalp. You can order it online although will pay around £15-£17.
I have horrid itches on my scalp and eyelashes. I’ve changed my shampoo to baby shampoo which I use on both. Not a cure but it does help me. I also use Original Source shower gel which is ok for me. I only shower with that once a week and other showers are water only. Scleroderma stops your skin producing the normal oils your skin needs so you need to not be washing them off too much. Good luck x
Thank you Noreastlass! I am happy you found relief from itching, I tried Johnson’’ baby shampoo, dr recommendation, didn’t help! I will look into Original Source shower, happy to try everything!! As it is AID, are you on any medication?
I was having nightly itches and scraping my skin until it bled. My pulmonologist put me on Fexofenadine 180 Mg tablets and it seemed to help (75%-80% better). It works by blocking a certain natural substance (histamine) that your body makes during an allergic reaction. Fexofenadine is available under the following different brand names in the US: Allegra, Allegra Allergy 12 Hour, Allegra Allergy 24 Hour, Children's Allegra Allergy, and Mucinex Allergy. I do have PBC, Raynalds, Sjogrens, and a few other AI issues, however this seems to help minimize the scratching.
I forgot to mention a few things: I reserve my "Fex" for the afternoon given I tend to itch at night and I do not take it with Omneprazole or any fruit juices given it cuts down the desired effects. Mine is an actual prescription and not purchased over the counter.
Yes mine drives me to meltdown too but l have found MSM helps, take it for 10 days before you judge whether its working for you and some brands are better than others. Some have added copper, just watch you take with a full tummy as copper can make you fell nauseous. I know it burns and itches so much you just have to scratch but scratching triggers further itching. Try patting it and gritting your teeth until the powerful urge to scratch subsides and it does help it calm down. I also found hacking the vagus nerve with breathing out thru puffed cheeks calms the nerve endings. Ask away or Google it. Stress always seems to make mine worse, so trying to ease the stresses in your life will filter thru too. Hope you find relief soon love.Hang on in there, l get bouts of it but with those things mentioned above, it eventually fades away again x
Hi, I stopped using shower gels and use Dove Soap only now as my skin reacts to shower gels.I also use Childs Farm shampoo as other shampoos caused my scalp to get lumps of dry skin forming. Child's farm is recommended by Dermatologists and those with eczema. It's helped my scalp to calm down a lot.
