Thought this could be relevant and interesting for some of us...

A groundbreaking study has linked a common virus to autoimmune diseases from lupus and multiple sclerosis to rheumatoid arthritis.

Hi, this is really interesting. I have always thought that EBV was responsible for my Autoimmune disease. I have been told in the past that my chronic fatigue is most certainly down to EBV also. Will keep my eyes peeled for more info on this. My rheumatologist at the Royal Free did say that they thought there was a definite link.

Hi hunkyd0ry, very interesting article, I worked with a dr many years ago when all my problems were starting and was diagnosed with UCTD, I’ve recently been diagnosed with CREST, this dr asked me if I’d ever had glandular fever, I had it when I was ten and was extremely ill with it, I was off school for three months, when I told her this she said ‘ That’s probably where it stems from, it’s altered your immune system ‘ ! I’ve often thought about that, so she may well have been right all those years ago! My dad also had SLE so genes come into it too!

I was diagnosed with Raynaud's after my 2nd attack of Glandular Fever. Before my first attach I did not feel the cold, I wore short sleeve t-shirts in winter, no bed socks, etc. After my first bout - I noticed the cold and started wearing more clothes. One advantage - my feet became more fragrant - because they stopped sweating :O) (Something I found v embarrassing i my late teens)

In the several meetings I had with my Rheumy after my diagnosis I told him what and how I had changed and asked if there was a link to my Glandular Fever. At the time he said it was possible as there was not a lot of understanding of why Primary Raynaud's just started.

It now feels like all those years ago I was given an insight to help me cope with my new situation.

Thank you so much for sharing this. N xx
