Knee pain cold temp
Hi, my husband gets this - he has arthritis of the knee. I developed "grumpy knees" a long time ago and used to have to massage them twice a day, they were worse in winter, but the GP said it was just one of those things that happens. The knee that I had an op on years before was always worse. May I suggest a course of action that has worked for me and reduced the pain for my husband:
a) Start taking Glucosamine Sulphate - it is known to be good for the knees and we both benefit from it. He needs to take it for 1 to 2 months, then stop and see if the pain increases without it. (I'm really lucky, for me if I take the Glucosamine generally I don't have to massage.)
b) Massage at least once a day, twice is better. My husband uses just a moisturising cream when it's not too bad and either deep heat and/or anti-inflammatory cream (prescribed but I'm sure your pharmacist could help).
c) Knee supports when it's really bad
d) Is there another GP he can see in the practice? I suggest he just tells them about his knees and doesn't mention Raynaud's. This way he might get an X-ray. After my husbands knees were X-rayed he got his diagnosis and now, as we both age (creek!) - he has cortisone injections which work really well for him. The reason I say don't mention Raynaud's is that my Mum did the same thing - for years she she would tell the GP that "this" had got worse and he believed her, but when she got really ill and was complaining that her treatment no longer worked, I suggested she just see a GP and present her symptoms. Immediately she had a new diagnosis and she is now much better.
I hope he finds a solution quickly. All the best, N
