I have developed insomnia possibly as a result of starting a TCA drug which prevented me from sleeping.
It still hasn't resolved itself and I struggle to get to sleep or stay asleep. Lucky if I get 2 hours of sleep a night.
I am in the UK and the only thing that has helped is phenergan (promethazine) that you can buy from a few online pharmacists but you are only supposed to take it for 10 days, not sure why?
I have ordered some melatonin tablets from the US health store as these are unavailable in the UK to under 55s. Has anyone got any experience of melatonin, does it help sleep? Are they safe?

Go see your GP(if you can get an appointment|) they can prescribe meletonin. I take it now and again and sometimes it works and other times it doesnt. Maybe a short course of sleeping pills may help.
I also take Melatonin as mentioned it works sometimes. So now i increased it to 2 tablets dr. said to take it 2 hr before sleep
I do also take Magnesium bisglycinate at night to help with sleep
But now i started doing breathing ... 4-7-8 Dr. Weil breathing, vipassana breathing ( i took that 10 day course many years ago but now have started again)
Among other herbal meds, I take 10mg of Melatonin at night. I was taking 5 mg but upped it to10 and found I sleep somewhat better. I was taking Valium and Xanax alternating every night while I was living in Thailand. But not here in Germany so I make due with melatonin and the herbals.
Is TCA tricyclic medication? If so then perhaps you suffer from restless legs and or periodic limb movement, and melatonin is contraindicated in this case. All serotonin agonists have made my sleep problems worse, I wish I had understood this years ago when doctors kept prescribing them for sleep. I have RLS as well as a deeper problem with insomnia.
