Traumatic nights

Hi! I'm new to this forum and anxious to see if anyone else experiences what I do at night.

These nightly episodes have been occurring for years and I always feel good during the day. It's usually not long after I fall asleep....I wake up and start hallucinating vividly around the room and then I'm hit with a freight train of symptoms (extreme heart rate, sweating, lightheaded, blurry vision, numbness and tingling, pressure, burning, etc). It usually takes 30 minutes or more to finally subside. When I have these episodes (which is multiple nights a week) I feel like the ambulance needs to be called or I'm going to pass out and die. I also take beta blockers and Valium (if needed) and they cannot combat these episodes at all.

I've had my heart tested, sleep study, etc and am currently being tested for an adrenal tumor which is so far looking negative. I am definitely an anxious person but have little stress in my life so I have no idea why this is happening to me! I am desperate for answers!!!

How awful. My heart goes out to you. I would have your blood tested privately to include thyroid antibodies x

I've had TSH, T4, and free T3 tested recently and those were normal. Do thyroid antibodies show something different?

Yes. You can get normal thyroid panel results for years until your Thyroid is destroyed so much by antibodies that it needs help. GP will not check antibodies easily.

I had terrible night terrors for years before it transpired that my Thyroid was under attack. Went through sleep clinic and everything. They were useless actually.

There is almost an epidemic of hypothyroidism in this country.

With early detection you can delay or reverse the damage. For the sake of a few quid check it out. I wish I had x

Thank you so much for the info! I will look into that. How were you treated for that and are your night terrors completely gone?

Yes completely gone. Also what were your TSH results? Have a look. The surgery will give you your results no problem. See if your TSH is above 2. NHS will say normal if under 5 but by then you need treatment.

Anyway keep looking for the root cause and dont be put off. I have just read that lowering progesterone can cause sleeplessness too. Also definitely check all your vitamin and mineral levels. Multivitamin manufacturers use cheapest and least easily absorbed ingredients so dont rely on them absolutely x
