Sudden wake at night with a pounding heart rate & a feeling of doom

Hello guys! This has happened to me about 4 times this year already. The most recent, a month ago. So I had no major activity that day, (just the normal day to day) so it was bed time, I had super and went to bed at 9:00 pm feeling healthy, then suddenly, about 2 hours later (in deep sleep) I suddenly woke up with a pounding heart rate and a feeling of pending doom, could hadly realize I was me, breathing slowed down (I was struggling to catch my breath) moving around the room struggling to find out what’s happening to me. I looked at my hands and the looked as if though, they don’t belong to my body. I felt like I was going to die the next minute. It happened for about 15 minutes. Now I had suffered from anxiety disorder until about a year, so I just told my self it might be it coming back and went back to bed , but couldn’t sleep till morning, was scared the whole night that it might happen again. Please I need to know you’re with me, help me. I’m 24’ 6’0, 180 pounds.

Those symptoms can be caused by an arrythmia such as Atrial Fibrillation, AF for short. If it happens again take your pulse and if it is fast ie 120+ or irregular then do go see your GP as soon as possible. AF is not immediately life threatening but can sometimes feel like it & many people with AF report the sense of pending doom, palpitations, racing heart & breathlessness along with very frequent peeing.

AF can be caused by sleep apnea so also ask about a sleep study.

You are definitely not alone! I have had this happen multiple times throughout the past two years and I still do not know what causes it. But it is very frightening. Some of my episodes have lasted a few hours. Let's let each other know if we end up determining anything regarding this issue.

I,ve had this for years, Don,t seem as bad now but I see people and spiders and snakes instead.
