I recently began sleeping in the same room as my roommate who is a light sleeper. She wakes me up multiple times a night telling me I have been grinding my teeth. I also suffer from migraines and recently discovered that TMJ could be a cause. Does anyone else have this issue? Any advice?

TMJ, Migraines, Grinding Teeth in sleep
Hi, i've had TMD (tempromandibular disorder) for just over 6 months now. Mine is caused by stress as i clench my teeth frequently, especially at night. It's a very hard habit to break as i only realise it is happening when i'm already clenching.
Currently i have a lower mouth guard, which my dentist made for me, i don't think this is working though, but it does for some people. I also had Diazepam to help, but as that made no difference it was changed to amitriptyline & am currently on 50mg at night, which seems to ease the pain a little.
Your first step will be to make an appointment asap, with your dentist, as grinding can cause a lot of damage to your teeth.
Sorry i can't be of more help, as i seem to have chronic TMD, but i wish you luck & if i do manage to get rid of it, will update this page.
I should have added that it also causes my earache, neck pain & migraines.
Thank you so much for your input! I will look into all of that. May I ask if the meds were prescribed by your dentist? I really hope you start having some improvement and relief soon. Thanks again!
