One Year Out

I was diagnosed with serous endometrial cancer, stage 2, grade 3 in September 2020. Before starting chemo I had a hysterectomy-bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, and the removal of 4 lymph nodes. Luckily, no cancer was found outside of the 2 locations found through the various diagnostic imaging procedures that preceded the surgery. After 6 rounds of chemo (on a 3-week cycle), I underwent 25 radiation treatments followed by 3 brachytherapy sessions. Other than losing my hair and 20 pounds I needed to lose, being overly tired and having chemo-brain for about 8 months, the journey had minimal effect on my life. The only side effect that remains is a bit of neuropathy in a few toes and low, but steady, platelet counts. Oh - and the port! The resources and friends I found through SHARE, ECANA, and my cancer center continue to be an invaluable support system. The most positive side of the journey is that I now value every minute of life and that I finally learned to say "NO".

Thank you for sharing, you give me hope. I too have just been diagnosed as St 2 Grade 3 after having complete hysterectomy on Oct 27,2021. I am awaiting a CT and then a treatment plan for my Doctor's team. I am very overwhelmed currently with the news.

Yes a really positive post, I was diagnosed last Feb 2021, stage 3 with G2 following the same surgery but having 11 lymph nodes removed from the left groin. I developed pains with radiotherapy in the left hip and just taking things easy. I have found swimming to be the best exercise for me to help recovery. Wish I lost some weight, as put it on with the chemo as having steroids and found the swimming is helping. A slow gentle recovery where I have realised I need to slow down even when I think I am on top of things. Healthy eating and having up to 3 drinks a week, if that. The 'C' has made me realise I need to look after my body and make time for me, and not rush around like I used to. Positive healthy vibes and wishes to you all.
