My previous treatment (Taxol/Keytruda) did not work - which was a huge disappointment - and I’m starting Gemzar on Monday. I have extensive Mets in the liver, a few (& growing) in bones.
In the meantime my abdomen has swelled up to a point where I look 6mos pregnant and it’s extremely uncomfortable. It’s possible the new chemo will help but that can take time. The other options seem to be 1) a big dose of diuretics, or 2) draining the excess fluid using a needle, a procedure called paracentesis.
Has anyone had experience with draining or otherwise addressing ascites?

Have your belly drained. The chemo and gyuretic should help if they work and you'll feel much better. I know from experience. I had to start on iv chemo Enhertu. It brought my cancer markers down 40 points, the first treatment. I just had the second treatment tolerating it o k. I have been a nurse for 42 years and have had 4 different cancers and take my word for it. After you get your belly drained, you feel so much better and it removes cancer cells from the fluidGod bless
Have the ascites drained. I had it done four times (each time 5 liters drained) this summer, before the treatment started to work. You will feel much better and the procedure is painless. I finish going to an emergency room as it was more convenient that having it scheduled in a hospital. I wish you the best.
