Piqray availability in Australia

Hello all.

I joined this group hoping to get some info on Piqray for a family member living overseas.

Their main questions were the price of Piqray in Australia and is Alpelisib the most effective PIK3CA inhibitor.

Thanks in advance

Peter

Hi, Peter!

There is a new drug available called Truqap that is not supposed to have as many side effects as Piqray. I looked online, and it does say it’s available in Australia. As far as price, here in the U.S., the prices are quite high if you don’t have insurance. I’m not sure how much it would be in Australia

Hi KMBL,

Thanks for your reply. I will have a search of this product. Price is not really an issue, just the availability and countries. Looking for my relative whom is in China currently working and living.

I don’t think Truqap is available in China yet., but I may be mistaken.

The price for Piqray doesn’t seem to be online for Australia but as it’s not subsidised it could be very expensive. Unsubsidised drugs are sold at the manufacturers price and some people have had to draw on their superannuation as costs can easily be $20,000 per month.

Hi Peter, I couldn't find the cash price for piqray nor where to buy it in Australia. If Piqray is not available except through clinical trials or not available yet on the PBS in Australia a person can get the drug through everyone.org (for self paying patients or patients with high copays per month) and they will walk you through the process or your doctor can contact them directly since they work with healthcare professionals. They do ship to Australia but not to China. You can check out them out, here's the link to the pharmacy in Amsterdam, Netherlands: everyone.org/piqray-alpelisib. I have not used them but it's something I will keep in mind for anyone having difficulties paying cash in the USA for our MBC cancer drugs. In the USA a month 's supply is about $23,000 for Piqray and a month's supply from the Amsterdam pharmacy, in euros, is approximately €6,748 (just over approximately $7,000 US dollars). The best bet is to go directly to the drug company Novartis for help in getting Piqray free or at reduced cost: novartis.com/au-en/patients... this is the website for Australia and you can find out how to apply for financial assistance. I hope this information helps. Please though do due diligence in researching the pharmacy since I personally don't know anyone that has used the Amsterdam one but I know of women that have gotten help from the manufacturers of our very expensive cancer drugs either free or at greatly reduced costs.

Hi Monkeygirl

Thanks for the info. I will check out the Dutch site. Spoke with someone from the compassionate team of Novartis, and they couldn’t give a price as it can be set by the warehouses, pharmacy or Specialist. Crazy in a way. I gave my relatives the Novartis Hong Kong web details telling them to try and contact them and see if they can organise something. Wait and see.
