I've been taking 600 mg. Kisqali (ribociclib) since November 2021 (26 months) only I take it with letrozole not fulvestrant. I have extensive metastatic breast cancer (spleen, lungs, bones, skin), and this combination seems to keep it from growing.

However, I am 78 years old, and believe that no new cells grow very quickly in my aged body. I do find the combination of meds is too hard on my immune system so only take this combo five days a week (Monday through Friday) without any meds on the weekends. The research has yet to be published, but my guess is that, ultimately, all older patients will be taking cancer meds on a five days on-two days off schedule.

Are you in a study with these two meds or is your onc working “outside the box”? If I may ask, how have you convinced insurance to pay for both of those at the same time? I wish you the best.

Hi,

I am a Canadian so am covered by our universal medical plan. I've simply never dealt directly with insurance. Even when my husband became ill in Spain, our Canadian travel agent took care of the costs there.

Cheers, Cindy

Think you may have mixed drug names up...Letrozole is also called Femara...but Ibrance is similar to Kisqali and would not be taken at the same time.

You are right so I revised my response. Thanks!

I have been on those drugs since October 2023 and am tolerating them quite well. This next cycle I am reducing my Kisqali to 400 mg due to some persistent itching. I just had scans and my newest cancer spot went from 6m to 5 mm. I am 77 years old. Good luck!

I have been on fulvestrant with Ibrance, and now on Kisqali with exemestane. No particular advice except look up on here all the precautions on the fulvestrant injections (warm it up, make sure they administer slowly, in hip instead of butt, etc.).
