I have read that Black Seed Oil is beneficial for cancer patients. But, my search has shown little related to MBC. What are your thoughts and experiences? I will of course discuss with my oncologist before adding to my supplements. Thanks!

Has anyone used Black Seed Oil
My oncologist said no herbs. Many contain phytoestrogens. Our bodies use it like estrogen. If you have estrogen positive cancer it will feed it.
Hi FloridaNYgirl. I don't personally use any supplements. Studies generally show that these one-off supplements marketed towards helping people fight cancer often are preying on the desperation we as cancer patents can sometimes feel. Also these are never studied on patients with advanced cancers who have much more to lose if the supplement interacts with their treatments.
Several things to keep in mind. Black Seed Oil is more commonly known as Nigella sativa in the medical community. A trusted site for supplements and herbs interactions is MSKCC. Under their herb-lab interactions it states that it can cause a decrease in leukocyte and platelet counts which is often low already with any cancer treatment that we take. Also I'm not sure what treatment you are currently taking but you would want to make sure it is one that isn't metabolized by these enzymes CYP2D6 and CYP3A4 which a number of them are, in particular certain AI's.

The most important thing of all is that you never add supplements without talking to your oncologist (as you already said you would). Only they have access to your entire medical history and can advise. Take care.
Thank you for all that great information. I am on Ibrance 125 and letrozole, since Octoberof 2021. Black seed oil is derived from cumin, as is curcumin, an extract of turmeric. I know my Dr has said using turmeric, ginger and cinnamon are all fine to use as an anti-inflammatory and help boost immune system.
I have not been able to find any specific relation between black seed oil and MBC.
Happy Holidays!
Seasons Greetings: 😇Sister/ Warrior/ Advocate If you can speak with an Integrative Dr. Also try to speak with someone from the Annie Appleseed Project🙂. I also believe Sloan Kettering Hospital has a list of approved, and none approved herbs/supplements according to specific breast cancer diagnosis'. 😇 Seasons Greetings/ Merry Christmas to you , your love ones, and to our Sisters/Warriors/Thrivers/ Advocates, and last but not least Over-comers XoXo🙂🙏😇🙏
I am ER/PR+ HER2- ILC. I have used Black Seed Oil and currently take about 15 different supplements. I have an open relationship with my Onc. If between her and the pharmacist they can't see any issues my Onc is OK with it. Many times when researching supplements rarely does 1 supplement help but a combination. From my research being ER+ HER2- Black Seed Oil can help reduce resistance to Tamoxifen and AI medications. It can also reduce HIF-Alpha-1 which can make CDK4/6 inhibitors work better. I take this with at least 20mg of Melatonin (not necessarily for sleep, although I take it at night, but because of the anti -inflammation properties) and Sulforaphane (which you can also get from broccoli sprouts - sprouts provides far more than broccoli it self). BSO also inhibits VEGF. If you prefer to DM me I can go more into depth. Other supplements I'm currently taking include Tumeric/Curcumin, EGCG (which I try to get exclusively from green tea), Claritin (not for allergies), Magnesium, Low dose aspirin, Omega 3, Quercetin, Turkey Tail Mushroom, Vitamin D 10,000iu, Zinc and drink 8oz of pomegranate juice per day for gut health. Most of my research comes from PUBMED or NIH. Please keep in mind I am in no way advocating or recommending these to everyone just sharing information from my research.
