A quick question about taking antibiotics while on Ibrance and Letrozole. I am on vacation right now and unfortunately is experiencing toothache with swollen gums. I’m planning to see a dentist this week to ask for prescription for my swollen gum but not sure if this will have an adverse interaction with Ibrance and Letrozole.
Any insights is greatly appreciated! Thank you!
May you all have a Merry Christmas!🥰🎄

Hi Thelma , I'm sorry you have a toothache on vacation :/ I've taken a short course of antibiotics on Ibrance and fulvestrant and it was fine . I would send your oncologist an email or message via MyChart if you have that set up, just to double check . Also , pharmacists are really helpful - you can ask the pharmacist that fills the antibiotic rx if there is any adverse reaction to ibrance or letrozole and the specific antibiotic you are prescribed.
I take Ibrance and Letrozole and have been doing very well on this combination for the past 52 phases (21 days on and 7 days rest). During this time I have had many prescriptions for antibiotics to fight my UTIs. I don't have any problem taking the antibiotics. However, I haven't needed antibiotics recently because I am taking a vinegar/lemon juice drink every morning. I mix 1 Tbsp. of vinegar (organic apple cider with the mother) and 1 Tbsp of freshly squeezed lemon juice in 8 ounces of water. It seems to be protecting me from the frequent bladder infections. So I don't think the antibiotics will cause problems but, of course, check with your doctor. The doctors I go to when I have a UTI are aware that I am on cancer drugs and they do give me the antibiotics so they are probably safe to take. Cheers Marlene
Thanks Marlene! I will surely ask the dentist tomorrow about the antibiotics. I’m glad that you’ve found a n alternate treatment for your bladder infections! Keep safe!🥰
🙏 Probably not the issue when my partner had Covid told to take a break as immune system taking a hit on AI’s, checkpoint inhibitors.
Also an interesting post by the Moss report about the effect the gut biome has on the efficacy of immunology treatment. At the very least would be loading up on prebiotics, probiotics trailered to antibiotic, chemists have. Mouthwash, honey ? Any naturopaths your way in the mean time?
At this time of year despite the situation so appreciative of the time we have with our loved ones and hope it is for all. 🍻🎉
Thank you muzzatron! I hope your partner is feeling better now!
Yeah I’ve been gurgling mouthwash and warm salt water to ease the swelling and it’s working. I have an appointment today with the dentist and hope she can prescribe an antibiotic. We’re here spending the Christmas holidays with family and love ones, and hope to enjoy this time together!
Several times I have taken Letrozole with antibiotics (Doxycycline and Z-Pack - not at the same time) with the knowledge of my Onc. I am currently taking Exemestane and Verzenio. I have used this service in the past to check medication interactions - webmd.com/interaction-check...
On another note. I listen to a lot of pod casts. Interestingly two of the podcasts this week mention a link between dentistry and cancer.
Dr V talks about it more in-depth in her conversation - Not sure the exact time frame - The total discussion is about 45 minutes - drtalks.com/videos/survive-... | Dr Janina touches on it in this video - total discussion on this is about 20 minutes youtu.be/rnMvLdhIXAQ?si=qER... Hope it helps
Hello . I was put on Letrozole before I had sugery. And after my Lumpectomey I had infection in my breast due to the plastic surgeon didn't put drains in . And I had to take 2 different types of antibiotics.. I didn't seem to have any kind of reaction to the antibiotics. Prayers everything goes ok. Have a wonderful blessed holiday.
