I have had chronic UTIs and for the past year my GP has had me on a low dose antibiotic 2x a day. Never I. The year have I had a UTI. Last week I called her office, could not get in for an appointment as for the past two weeks I’ve had this hacking cough. She was not in the office, I was referred to a new dr in town who will take dame day appointments. I went and he was very nice. Said my cough was a side effect of my blood pressure medication. He changed my med and the cough is gone. After I left his office I went to her office and turned in a request for costplusdrugs to get the antibiotic renewed. I did not hear from her on Friday, even after I sent a message through the portal. Again today I could not get an appointment and asked if she was on the office and they said yes, and sent a message through portal again. Still no word from her. I don’t know what to do. I like to mention this is not the first time she has not responded to my messages on the portal. I’m almosout of the antibiotic and we are leaving for Maine on the 8th for ten days. I don’t want to mess with a UTI on vacation. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated and welcome? I’m beginning to think she doesn’t like me or she’s very unprofessional?

It is so frustrating when you cannot get a response from your doctor, we have enough stuff to deal with. I'm in NZ so I don't know how the system works where you are but if you can I'd change to the new guy. He was on the ball about your BP meds causing the cough, a lot miss that.

Thank you, o thought about this all night and going to make an appointment with him this morning. She’s either too busy or doesn’t want me for a patient! Very unprofessional! Hugs!

One thing you can do is call the pharmacy where you get the script filled and ask them to call for the refill. Another option is if you can do a virtual, like I will do MDLive, and if you describe your symptoms, they will call in a script. Have you had any testing to see why you have recurrent UTIs? I absolutely hate them. I can’t imagine living with them all the time. I’m so sorry.

I have fought UTI's all my life then I found out about apple cider vinegar; now when I feel one coming on, I put a capful in 8 oz of water and drink a few times a day for a few days and wellah! it is gone! Hope it works for you as well! Have fun on your trip and God bless you and heal us all in Jesus name, amen! (I am NOT a doctor)

Very sorry to hear about your experience. You can call pharmacy, tell them that you’re going on vacation and they’ll give at least how much you need while you’re away.

Have a wonderful time in May and later think what you want to do about your doc.

I had the second UTI in my life all of a sudden two nights ago while away in Massachusetts. Happened to be talking to nurse in NY the next morning who was doing pre-op screening. While we were on the phone, she sent in a script for antibiotic to the little pharmacy in my town in MA, and I picked it up right away. So being away doesn't mean you can't get a prescription.

Don't take it personally! Many docs are over worked these days! that doesn't mean you shouldn't change doctors!

I also have recurring UTIs. I cannot continue taking antibiotics because I am resistant to all but one of them. So I have struggled but had some success with natural methods. I make sure I take lots of probiotics. I am reducing my starch and sugar intake. I take grapefruit seed extract when I feel an attack coming on and I also alternate and take caprylic acid. Both the grapefruit seed extract and the caprylic acid can be obtained at the health food store. I also take 2 caps of cranberry pills and lately have added 1 tsp x 2 a day of d-mannose. And lately I have added ginger juice. I just heavily dose with the above ingredients and seem to be able to get it under control again. I also drink lots of water and uncaffeinated beverages. My favourite tea is Rooibus. But I also love to take Camomile tea at bed time. I lately have decided to go on a Mediterranean diet and hope to lose the 10 pounds that I gained in the last couple of years. I think it might help my bladder. It is also very important to not suffer from constipation. I think that is very critical in preventing UTIs. I hope my efforts to stay clear of infection helps you because anti-biotics sometimes stop working and then you are really in trouble. Hugs Marlene
