The scheduler phoned me Monday to offer me an earlier procedure on Tuesday and I jumped at the chance to be the first patient of the day for the hand surgeon! When he's not running late, and is likely at his best. But that meant we had to get up at 4 am! Itold every body that I probably didn't need much anesthesia as I'd just doze off. Everyone at the hospital was nice, treated me well, and all went well. We were home by 11 am! With several pages of instructions: exercises, ice packs, elevation, keep it dry, when to phone if problems. Much less pain than I expected, almost none. I took the bandages and wraps off last night, "flushed" the incisions with hydrogen peroxide, and put gauze and tape on them and had a good night's sleep! Stitches to removed two weeks after procedure. Guess we'll figure out when to do the left hand.
I've had to learn new ways to use my right hand to help me stand up, and lots of adjustments in the bathroom! I'm hoping I'll have better use of that hand once it's healed. And I wish the carpel tunnel had been diagnosed earlier! Hard to know how much of my hand strength and coordination problems from that and how much from neuropathy.
I hope everyone has a good weekend and is safe from floods, fires and all the other bad weather!

Thanks! I am relieved already, esp not having much pain. Cancer brings so much but this isn't cancer related and has been a bigger problem than most of the symptoms and side effects of cancer and it's treatment! That irony makes me laugh!
It’s true what you’re saying. Just when I thought the cancer was under control with Verzenio, my cough became unbearable. After a broncoscopy I’m waiting for the final results. The steroid and abuterol seem to have relieved my cough but abnormal results for staph and mycobacterium. I’ve gone from expecting a fracture or bone Mets to progress to lung disease lol. As you say it’s ironic! Anyway it will be great if the carpal tunnel is resolved. We’ll just keep on trucking! Chris
Thanks! Love your screeen name. My grandparents had huge hydrangeas near their front door and I've planted some almost every place I've owned. Such gorgeous flowers!
Thanks! I'm right handed but think my left hand has gotten better at some stuff since I need to use it more and for stuff I don't usually need it for. It's a big relief to have so little pain.
It's hopeful to hear about your experience! How long did it take to heal, to have a difference in coordination? I guess I'm rather impatient at the moment, LOL. At least it's easier to type!
Everyone heals differently but from the time I had surgery it took about 3 months to heal completely. I had an area near my thumb that was numb and that took quite a while to regain all feeling. My surgery was on Friday and I was at work on Monday. Amazing difference before and after!
So happy your surgery went well. I'm glad you don't have a lot of pain. Hope your healing goes well and that this surgery completely resolved the issues you were having. Will you have to do any PT to regain full use of your hand. Sending you hugs and prayers.
Thanks! I've been really pleased so far. Am going to ask about PT and OT next time I see a doctor, or NP. I've had both before and love the local PT/OT/ST! When I first saw the incisions, I was surprised by low long they are, esp the one near my elbow.
Thanks! I bet Moffitt has a hurricane plan! would you feel better if you phoned them and asked? I sure hope the hurricane doesn't hurt FL! We have a daughter who lives in the Keys, so we get updates about the weather in FL. I think we're alot "safer" than FL, at least in terms of weather. Moffitt has a great reputation!
Thanks! i'VE gone from hand plus arm up just past elbow wrapped to just large bandages over incisions on mid-hand pad and on back side of elbow. Little pain, almost none. Doing really well!
