The Hole is Closed!

On 6 April, the interventional radiologist slipped with the instrument to ablate a malignant tumor in my liver and punctured a hole in my colon! My health situation has been dire, since. Last Friday I had a procedure in Memorial Sloan. Kettering to block a nerve in that area as I have had almost unrelenting pain. She did a CT scan which, finally, after two months of misery and uncertainty, revealed that the hole had closed. Yeah! Hallaluya! Hurray! I could feel my body gaining energy, my mind telling my body the scary time is finally over. Today I hope to be making plans to go back to South America. Life is good!

Thank you, Best521! The trip that I want to take begins in January. I am hoping that my friend from Scotland comes with me. Otherwise, I will have to pay for the second, absent person.

I was so sad to read this and that you’ e had such pain. Thankfully you’ll fully recover soon and be happy back in SA. All best wishes! 🙏🏻🌷

Dear Red1246---The pain is here but now I know that it will not stay. Up till the scan on Friday, it was anyone's guess whether it and, therefore, I was going to heal or remain as an invalid. I am head, as I write you, Is making so many plans. Most times, my MBC was a side issue. It became front and center since 6 April. Now, hopefully, the healing and pain will get better, fast and I can get back to living my wonderful life.

That is really good news! Yay! As for South America... I'm so jealous. I spent a year in Colombia in the 1990s and always wanted to go back. Magnificent scenery, wonderful people. I hope your plans work out! 🙌

This trip that will happen, hopefully, is a cruise around South America and Antartica..Iam waiting very impatiently for my friend to make up his mind where or not he is game. I may just book it as a single and let him join me when and if he wants to.

Great news! Dealing with MBC is bad enough without having to put up with human error. Here’s to a pain free future!

Dear Nocillo ----These things happen. She is a really excellent interventional radiologist/surgeon. This experience was very bad for her as well. Now that I know that the hole is closed and is healing, I am over it and am on to a happier time. Thank you for your concern. I take such pleasure in the wonderful support the give each other.

This lousy cancer sure teaches us alot about our bodies! and how important various partrs are! I'm glad to hear that the hole is healing so well....and that you have such a great interventional rad dr! I hope your friend makes up his mind about this trip soon! Enjoy the trip with or without him! Cruising is a great way for us to travel....a bed and toilet always available, LOL!

jersey-jazz profile image
jersey-jazz in reply to PJBinMI

Yes, cruises are certainly a good thing for those of us that are somewhat handiapped by all the MBC stuff. I haven't moved much in the past two months and am hoping to get back to the "Y" in about a month to recharge the muscles and to get back to an active life. I owe it to my body which has been so good to me. When have been on a ship, I seem to join all the dancing and movement things and get off the ship a happier, healthier person.

In nearly 70 years I've been the victim of several mishaps, as well. Like you, I'm just grateful to God that I pulled through. I want people to forgive my mistakes, too. So I try to live my life that way. Hope nothing else knocks the wind out of your sails.

jersey-jazz in reply to chemohawk

Dear chemohawk. --Thank you for responding. It seems to me that our MBC life brings mishaps on a fairly regular basis, never when we are prepared. My mind is not in the same place it was before the last two months. I am certainly more tentative and spend too much time doing something that was not like me and that is worrying about the future a lot..

jersey-jazz in reply to hurricaneheather

Dear Hurricaneheather---Cancer tries to get the last word on the subject. Now have some swelling area next to the colon(?) which shows up on the PET scan and and talks to me with lots of pain. Am taking antibiotics but the pain is not budging. I don't think they know what the problem is. I certainly don't. One think we cannot call this journey is "dull"!
