Hi, just got confirmation from my doctor to stop taking everolimus because it made my liver enzymes to high. Has this happen to anyone else? I was trying to get an idea if they will start me with a different line of treatment. I thank God that there are different lines of treatments, my last treatment lasted 3 years, I am grateful for that.

Hi Suzie, That must be frustrating. How long have you taken it, and what were you on before? I was curious if you have had new scans recently and how they would know that the drug was specifically the cause of your enzyme levels to increase?

it’s a known but rare side effect.

I had a scan two months ago that showed progression and will have another in a month. They are going by the bloodwork and guessing they want to see if by stopping the drug if that will make a diffrence.

It has only been two months, next month is another scan. I was on Ibrance which worked for 3 years. My levels has always been normal until I started taking Everolimus so guessing that's why they are trying this to see if the numbers go to down.

Do you have mets in your liver? That's what I am dealing with now so it's interesting to hear that that drug itself can cause the enzyme levels to increase (vs the cancer). I took iBrance for almost 3 years too

No, I don't have mets to my liver according to my recent scan. I am praying that is not the case on my next scan. thanks.

Everolimus didn’t make my liver enzymes higher. Alkaline Phosphatase went to normal levels during treatment and before it was high. Unfortunately, this treatment didn’t work for me.

yes it happened to me. I stayed on Exemestane though as I hadn’t progressed. I’m still on Exemestane 7 years later with stable disease.

Can I ask if exemestane was your first line of treatment? I am asking because I have been on palbociclib and letrozole for three years and am worried about what comes next. Scans next month and getting very nervous!

This is my second line... first was Ibrance and it worked for 3 years with minimum side effects. I thank God I got a few years out of that drug.

Thank-you, you just made me a lot less worried. I am glad you are doing well!

I was on Letrazole briefly but it did nothing. I had six months of Abraxane then everolimus and Exemestane. I had ten months of everolimus but stopped due to the liver problems. Stayed on Exemestane alone up until now.

Hi, that was my main concern was if they would start a new treatment plan or just take me off for a short time if my next scans show it is working. Thanks.

if you haven’t had progression then you can stay on Exemestane alone until you do get progression. That’s the case here anyway.
