I had a Pet Scan this week and it is stable with no evidence of cancer. The scan did show something going on with both of my kidneys which was not shown on the scan 3 months ago.
I have been taking ibuprofen for back pain, mild headache- in the past couple of months. I also take Ibrance and Letrazole.
I do see a urologist who has been sent a copy of the report. Bloodwork today was normal relating to the kidneys. Has anyone experienced this and what did you do?
Thanks in advance for any information.

How I read what you have written here is that there is no evidence of cancer in your kidneys, or of anything else being wrong with your kidneys given that your bloodwork is normal.
GFR (normal range 60-200) and creatinine levels (45-90) are the bloodwork measures that best tell the health of our kidneys. As soon as I started my current MBC meds in November 2021, my GFR dropped from 62 to 42 while my creatinine levels rose to 110 from 80. Clearly, cancer meds can be hard on kidneys.
However, it is important to keep in mind that our kidneys tend to function less well as we age. My cancer-free husband has had poorer bloodwork measures than mine of his kidney functioning since 2017 if not before. He is only four years older than I am.
I‘m glad that your scans didn’t indicate anything specific in regards to your kidneys. It’s also very important the the blood word indicated normal kidney function. Still I suggest to discuss the use of ibuprofen with your oncologist. It may effect you kidney function. I switched to Tylenol.
Hi. I've read that nsaids (asperin, motrin, advil) should be avoided if you have any kidney issues. I have what they call renal insufficiency - my kidneys work less well than they should but not in kidney failure my any means - and I only take tylenol. You may want to ask doctor about taking ibuprofen.
hi Chris. yes...Tylenol (acetaminophen) is hard on the liver in excessive doses. and if taken with alcohol. ibuprofen is hard on the kidneys if used 'long term' at doses of like 1,200mg/day and above. I believe you take 200-300mg a day which should not harm your kidneys. please clarify with your oncologist if concerned about your usage.
You should be fine if you stay within recommended dosing. Mixing acetaminophen and alcohol can potentially lead to liver damage. Rarely, liver damage can be severe or even life-threatening. The label on most tylenol bottles has info on dosing. I take one or two tylenol daily for knee/shoulder pain and have had no problems.
