ELEVATED LABS AFTER SURGERY

I was diagnosed with MBC in the liver in March of 2019 and have been on Faslodex only since that time with stable scans and lab work. I fell 10/1 and fractured my femur near the hip. On 10/2 I had a partial left hip replacement. I missed my October oncology appointment and Faslodex shots. I saw the doctor yesterday and my alkaline phosphatase was elevated for the first time since diagnosis. It was 97 in September, 101 in the hospital and 170 yesterday. Upper limit of normal is 130 for the office lab. Has anyone had elevated lab work after surgery? I will have an MRI in two weeks and that will show me what is going on. I am very nervous about the increase since I have been doing so well. Thank you ladies for your support.

I’m afraid I can’t comment as I’ve not had surgery, nor do follow numbers. I go with how I feel, and keep an eye on my charts every month after bloods to see if things are going in the right directions - some tests are in the red, but that hasn’t interfered with my treatment plan, so I’m happy! It’s natural to feel nervous, it’s not easy.

I would ring your team and ask them the question - might put your mind at rest, and definitely wait for the results of your MRI. personally for me it’s what I look forward to the most. I’ve just started my 6th cycle of Cape and due a scan next month, I don’t suffer from scan anxiety anymore- I just want to know what’s what internally!

I do hope you are healing well after surgery, I hope someone with similar experience can give you peace of mind soon.

Im no doctor but i think alkaline phosphate has to do with the liver or kidneys??? If im right, i would think it could be an affect of the anateshia being filtered through them and out of your system.

Hi,

It seems to me that the elevation in your alkaline phosphate measure may be due to your missing your October Faslodex shot if that is what has been keeping your liver mets under control since 2019. Please give your body a chance to "get back to normal" from all it has been through recently.

Best of wishes for good news from the MRI,

Hugs, Cindy

Alk phos is associated with both liver and bone. Probably just temporary rise. Do ask your team!
