Has anyone on Ibrance had their oncologist tell them when during their Ibrance cycle is the best time to get Covid boosters?

Ibrance and Covid Shots
My onc told me the best time is during the seven days stop. Another option she suggested was to suspend the treatment for three days, from the day before until the day after the shot. I think much depends on your white blood cell count, so I think you’d better ask.
Thank you for your reply. My onc told me to do it on my off week in the past too. I’m trying to plan my next booster but don’t want to do it right before bloodwork the end of this month in case it interferes with results. The timing just isn’t working out good for me right now but I’ll just have to wait for the best time.
My onc never indicated when to take the shots. I was on a 5/2 schedule and got 2 shots and 2 boosters with absolutely no problems.
This is my most recent experience…I had my fifth Covid vaccine ( spring booster for immunocompromised here in the U.K. ) two weeks ago . ( I had the Moderna this time …previously I had two Astra Zeneca and two Pfizer) . I previously have had them at the end of my week off Ibrance , but I too decided I didn’t want this one to affect my monthly blood results , so I scheduled one the day after my monthly bloods appointment ( and I had just restarted Ibrance the day before and didn’t suspend my Ibrance/ Letrozole treatment.
My monthly bloods are usually good enough to continue on Ibrance 125 mg /60 plus cycles .I did have side effects from the Moderna vaccine … I started shivering about 9 hours after the jab for a couple of hours and then I had a temperature of 38.3 . It took 36 hours to get back to normal temperature and I was bushwhacked. I just took paracetamol , lots of water and rested. But thankfully my temperature went back down gradually and I was back to normal 36 hours later after the jab .
I am glad to have got it out of the way as Covid numbers here in the U.K. are beginning to rise and people are not yet taking the precautions they had previously done during the pandemic . In future , because of my most recent experience , I think I would go back to taking the vaccine on the last couple of days of being off Ibrance and not worry about that months bloods results !
Good luck with yours ! x
No--I got them when I could get them. For gory details, see my blog, The Critical Mom. My reactions were not too bad--only the third shot kept me in bed and exhausted for a few days. Have not yet had a fourth, since I'm waiting to see if that "better" vaccine comes through, but I wear FFP masks indoors.
No, I thought it was the opposite?
Mine had me take vaccine during off week then suspend restarting for two weeks post vaccine.
My onc said to stop the Ibrance for a couple of weeks and then get the vaccines, which I did. But I think it is different for everyone depending on how their ANs respond to the Ibrance. I was always very slow at recovering from Ibrance and had to eventually go off of it completely so maybe my case was unusual. Not sure this helps but in the end, maybe check with your provider for your particular circumstance. It is so confusing to navigate all of this. Good luck!
I plan to ask my onc about it at my visit this coming week - I only have had the first two shots and when I previously asked about the boosters, he said I could wait???? But.... Our numbers are climbing in my state, but I wouldn't mind waiting until the new Omicron version of the vaccine comes out that I read about. I wear a mask whenever I go out- wash or use hand sanitizer, but I am around my family and a few friends- who are living their lives. We also just had our first case of Monkey Pox reported in Louisiana- yikes!!!!!
I was told best on week off but I've now had five, first four were start of week off but last one was at end of week off. I was fine and went on holiday a couple of days later. Good luck. X
My infusion nurse said the best time was during my off week, but I didn't see her until after my first two vaccines. Honestly, when the first shots became available, I didn't even think about Ibrance - I just went and got them - I was more worried about Covid than side effects. I've had two shots and two boosters and haven't scheduled around Ibrance. Had fatigue and a sore arm each time, that was it. But not everyone reacts the same, so do what's right for you.
Thank you all for your replies. I’ve decided on my off week to have blood work one day, Covid booster next and anniversary following day! Seems to be my only window of opportunity before going to M D Anderson beginning of August and I’d like to be boosted before that trip.
I had all of my COVID shots on day 6 of the week I was off Ibrance. I was a little under the weather from the vaccines but I expect it could have been worse if my counts had not begun to rise.
Hi and thank you for a good question. My oncologist advised against getting the COVID boosters because I have challenging lung infections, ongoing and as a result of Ibrance. Have been taking the usual precautions (obsessive masking and hand washing and so far, so good. Recently he mentioned that it might be ok to get a booster but I've decided to wait until the next round is available — probably in the Fall. I've just switched to Faslodex and Ibrance and want my body to get used to that new routine.
I haven’t had any of the Covid vaccines.
Generally speaking you should be taking a break fro Ibrance when getting the covid shot...if you usually take two weeks off between cycle then you'll be safe to get the shot towards the end of your second week...I wouldn't take the covid shot if my ANC was low...you won't get a [roper response from your immune system. But your ONC will be able to know you best and your numbers.
