Hair and Ibrance
Hi Becky
After chemo my hair came in it’s natural color: white. I hadn’t seen my real color since I started covering some grays almost30 years ago. I have decided not to color it. I am 64 and am ok with the white at this stage of my life. However I do put purple streaks in it. Just don’t want to be another old lady! The texture has dramatically changed from thick and wavy to rabbit fur. That’s probably the Ibrance.
What do you use to put the purple streaks in your hair? Does it was out after next shampoo?
Hi JBirdnut
I tried doing it myself and I messed up big time. I have it done. There are no permanent purples so I don’t wash it everyday (no need but do get it wet in shower) and it can last 4 to 6 weeks. I can try to get the name of the product if you want to try it yourself. It’s fun. I like it. Others either like it, are
Amused at it or say nothing! I’m originally from NYC where this would not get a second look. There are.
Other colors to try like blues and reds.
Yes. I would not attempt it myself, but I can get my hair stylist to do it. I keep it short and spikey. The silver color is nice, but makes me look older than I feel!
So if you can find the name, I would appreciate it.

Yes. I have 2x. I’m on 125mg Ibrance my onc tokd me it was ok...so I have colored it twice in 2 mths. But my hair did get a lot thinner 😊
I color my grays every 4 to 6 weeks. I'm 49 and not ready to go gray! Although my hair is thinner from the Ibrance.
I'm also on Ibrance 125mg & I have been coloring my hair every 4-5 weeks.
I am on Ibrance and letrozole and my hair has thinned but I too have continued having highlights .
Hi Becky,
I kept my hair during chemo by wearing a cool cap. It is much shorter and thinner now. Since my hair is fragil after the chemo and radiation, I have given up my beautiful Hollywood bleached blonde highlights. I’ve opted for a more natural semipermanent hair color that I do myself at home. I use Clairol Natural Instincts. Cancer gave me grey hair that looks like highlights now.
Instead of washing it everyday blowing it dry and using a flat curling iron. I use a more gentler approach of washing it a couple of times a week and putting it up in the Megan Markel messy bun a couple days a week. It makes me look younger and conserves my energy which is really low.
I must have been paying a lot of money for my highlights and haircut before because my hair dresser is courting me like a teenage boy!
While taking imbrance, I have not had any hair thinning or loss of hair. I’m tracking my nutritional intake on My Fitness Pal to ensure I’m getting the right calories, nutrients and macros. It’s working!!!😊💕
Yes I’m on Ibrance and Letrozole and I dye my hair every 5weeks. My docters said it was ok but to try an avoid harsh chemicals. So I go to a place that has a dye with more natural stuff. No ammonia
Ibrance and Letrozole for 13 months. I have my gray covered every 5-6 weeks. Dr said it was fine as long as I go as chemical free as possible. Aveda Salon's use a 98% natural product.
Yes I too color my hair every six weeks. No ammonia. And yes my hair is thinner so I cut is shorter and am getting used to it.
yep, I do color my hair about once a month or whenever the grey roots come in. I use demi perm not peroxide and sometimes I just do my roots. But, I am not ready to look old although I am 68.
You are very young looking, put up your pic! I put in the one you said looks best!😁
Not sure how to upload photo
Go to home on this site, hit your round thing that says bums, where your pic would be. Then it should come up like three things, I pick upload from library which would be pics on your phone. Then pick from phone pictures. Like when you where standing on steps outside. It’s easy if I can do it!
I've been dealing with mbc for over 14 years and when I was first diagnosed, hair loss was one of the first things I thought about.....I even ordered a wig! But with a highly estrogen driven cancer, I've never been on chemo, and oddly initially my hair got thicker and curlier while I was on hormonal treatment. It did thin some while on Ibrance in 2016 and not thickened up again. I have dyed my hair to hide the gray for a long time--I have medium brown hair and the gray is not pretty! The only thing I have noticed is that my hair seems to look brassier than it used to when I dye it. And I don't know if that is age, meds or something else. I decided that as long as I have hair, I am going to have fun with it.
Oh yes. And a Brazilian blowout too. No impact. Hair is dry and thinning a little. It’s either the induced menopause or another med.
Yes, I use a more "natural" color called Tints of Nature and do it myself at home. Been using it for several years now.
Yes I color it every 4-5 weeks. Even at 73 I want to look good. You look good you feel good is my motto.
Your a very young looking 73 from your pic!
Thank you, I don’t feel young since diagnosed . With stiff joints and back pain it makes you feel old. Can’t lift heavy things, so afraid of breaking a bone. But my kids don’t notice, still think I look great. I guess we learn to cover up and move on.
I get my hair foiled every 5 weeks. Since I’m not taking anything my hair is getting thicker. I’m just coming off chemo from April and hair still weird texture. The halo is crazy high at 500 so I’m just going to leave it as is.
I switched to using a henna product available on Amazon and happy with the outcome.
