Yesterday, I received the following message from someone with the username, "Lovingheart9":
"Hello there! Do you think a man like me can possibly get a response from you? Hope you're having a day as beautiful as you are. My kindest regards. Patrick."
I checked the username to determine that Lonelyheart9 had written no posts or replies, gave a bio that said just that he was 60, and his wife died from Parkinson's four years ago, claimed no illness, and was following 160 people from various sites.
I reported his inappropriate message, and sent him the following message:
"Hello Patrick, Your message is highly inappropriate for this site. I have reported you. If you are not a scam artist, and merely lonely, I suggest you join a nearby seniors group. Best wishes, Cindy"
This was the reply I received from Lovingheart9: "You must be very stupid to think your useless father and mother is a scam artist. May God double your sickness and kill you of it. Idiot like you"
This time, I merely reported the message. I wondered whether anyone else has received such a message, and whether it does much good to report such messages as the "Lovingheart9" profile is still available.
Cheers,
Cindy

I'm sorry that you had this intrusion into a safe space. As an aside, I am on Bumble and find being direct and clear often gets this kind of reply. Should we love bomb him with hundreds of scam sales messages until he leaves the site?!!
Your reply made me laugh! I'm a bit concerned though that he is indeed a scam artist looking to form connections he might be able to use. Actually, his use of English in his abusive message made me wonder where he actually lives. I'm going to mute him so he can't send other messages, and will make my posts open only to members of this site in future.
That might work.. I take my inspiration from my bees - when a wasp gets into the hive, they band together around it and warm it to death.... We could start on monday each of us sending him a message - user names A-F on monday
G-M on tuesday
N-Z on wednesday.
I would write " Hello, I have cancer and therefore it is difficult to find kind men like yourself to befriend me.. I don't have long to live and have many medical bills, please send me 100 dollars/pounds (I can take either currency) and your name and address so that I can leave you money in my will. Many thanks for your interest, you have made my day ..xx"
After you write a post, there's a query at the bottom which asks you who should see your post. The choices are: Anyone or Only Community Members. I tend to be a super open person so I tick the first box.
Wow that is creepy! And so abusive! Glad you reported him! Everyone please be careful of scammers! They are relentless and cruel! Ignore his horrible words! Everyone please have a good day and think happy good vibes my friends!!
I hope so too! I tried to check on HealthUnlocked for a "Lovingheart9" but the only reference was to my post above. Certainly, on our members list, it came back as "0 members" so I assume the moderators have at least restricted his access to the site.
I hope that the moderators are active enough to read and reply to this thread. The basic rule of thumb is Non-engagement. Any engagement with such abuse can just encourage the abuser since any interaction especially negative attention is what he is seeking.
Sorry it's happened, the world is full of them. Just let it run off, don't let it spoil anything, these people only have power if you give it to them. XXX ❤️
What an awful message to receive. The pratt is obviously a scammer looking to fleece a vulnerable person out of God knows what. Forget them they are not even worth a second thought .
This is why I don’t use a photo. I have a photo on LinkedIn and frankly, I had two guys follow me. It has become a bit of a lovely hearts club. One guy “cannot stop thinking about our wonderful times at Harvard Business School”. I did not go there?! Lots of creeps online. Sad really.
That man is a beast! I am so sorry this happened to u. I had someone that I actually knew that sent me a message similar to that. It was shortly after I was diagnosed. I was in shock and horror that anyone would ever say things like that. And no it was not from this or any other site. I hope that they find out who that was. Believe me, I did, and that person will never do that again. May god bless you and your family.
That is too much! I have already been feeling uncomfortable that there are actually men in this group that do not have MBC! I don't feel comfortable with spouses and family allowed. They are not allowed on any FB groups. I was kindly offering advice one day and it turned out to be a man--so now I am holding back any responses. But the query you received is just over the top! How disgusting. Where are the moderators for this site? On FB they are very active. Best to you--creeps seem to be everywhere. Kay
I'm so sorry this happened to you. Like you don't already have enough to deal with, right? When jerks like this crawl out from underneath their rock I always like to think "what goes around comes around". I just wish I could be there to watch it happen!
