Tingling nerve pain
You don't say what kind of surgery you had. FWIW, when I had a mastectomy years ago, I had tingling too. I learned that they stretch your arm waaaaay over your head to do the surgery. As you can imagine, your nerves do not like this! I took PT after the surgical pain subsided
I had PT after my first mastectomy also. It was very helpful. I have been dealing with cording since both mastectomies, went to Ot. It really helped, but now dealing with tingling in hands and arm. Told it is result of radiation from first time around. Also have Carpal Tunnel.
Did you have any lymph nodes removed? This can cause cording which, in my case, makes my armpit very tingly. You might want to get this checked by your BC nurse because if it is cording you'll need physio therapy to prevent mobility issues - especially if you are going to be having radiotherapy
I frequently have burning/tingling sensations in my legs. The sensations don't last long, and don't really impact my motility as they mostly happen when I'm in bed. I take nothing for them.
It is my understanding that my tingling sensations are the result of nerve damage from bone mets. I don't know whether the nerves will ultimately heal on their own. I hadn't considered whether physiotherapy might be useful in this respect.
I hope your tingling sensations will soon go away if they are currently bothersome'
Best wishes,
Cindy
Hi Cindy I'm glad you've mentioned tingling in your legs. I started getting tingling in one of my thighs almost immediately after my surgery. When I mentioned this to my Oncologist he sent me for MRI scan as he was concerned about nerve compression from my bone mets. The MRI didn't show that up but did show the size of my biggest spine met in detail and hence they got me on radiotherapy straight away.
That aside, I'm still getting the tingling but when I spoke to the radiotherapy consultant she said that the nerves to the thighs are in the lumbar vertebrae and my mets are in my thoracic so she was stumped too! I'll be reminding my oncologist about it when I see him in a couple of weeks.
The physiotherapy I mentioned was for cording which has happened in the armpit/arm on the side of my lymph node removal.
Best wishes
I get frequent bouts of tingling and numbness in my right leg and lower abdomen which is due to nerve compression where the vertebra has crumbled. I was given radiotherapy to L1, L2 and T12. It didn't resolve it completely so I was given amytriptaline.
I did get some tingling around the mastectomy site and was told that was the nerves that had been cut regenerating or healing.
If you got tingling since mastectomy that can be normal (do you mean a now-and-then type of tingle?). If it happens to get worse then be sure to ask about it. Otherwise it should get better with time. That said, everyone really should get either PT prescribed, or a pilates or cancer therapy specialist to work with to help with range of motion, avoid excessive scar tissue forming, and gradually rebuild strength in the affected arm (after doctor's clearance of course). And especially if you ever get radiation it is good to continue to do stretches to keep the tissue supple and allow full movement. I also had cording which is awful but this can be dealt with by either the surgeon or a PT.
