It has been suggested that I have a 1 session radiation treatment for pain in the sacrum . Can anyone share with me what I can expect after the treatment ? How many days of increased pain etc. With the busy holiday season I would like to plan my life a little 🤪.
Hi thereWhen I was diagnosed Nov 2020 with Only symptoms being Sacrum pain, but it was so bad I hardly sat down in 6 weeks prior, I was given emergency Radiotherapy x 3 day sessions to help a day after diagnosis.
Immediately, with a week, the pain got better in fact it took a couple of weeks and it went completely, like magic, here I am exactly 1 year later and never had a pain there since. They did say it could get worse first but it never did. Went on Ibrance Dec 2020 too.
I was absolutely fine after, it was a true lifesaver.
Thank you Debbie that really helps . I have been trying to decide if I should just wait until January or go for it in Dec. I had 5 radiation treatments in my neck area last year and it was a lot harder than I thought it would be . It was doable but not pleasant at all ( a little harder than I think I was lead to believe ) so I am skeptical . I have work events about every 5 days that I would like to be in good form for . I think I will call the radiation team tomorrow and ask a few more questions .
I am so happy that the treatments worked for you .

Thank you Sandra I am so glad your treatments were successful. I knew you had some relief but didn’t realize you were in as much pain before , it must have been awful . I find when I am not told upfront what I can expect I tend to loose trust when I feel side effects that were not really mentioned . I know we all react differently and each individuals cancer is different . I am nervous that I won’t be able to work and I hate to disappointed people and have to reorganize everything .
I really appreciate everyone’s shared experiences with their treatments . I think I will call this week and ask a few more questions and then decide .
If you are in so much pain that they're recommending palliative radiation. I can tell you l had more than just one treatment and am glad l did because the pain l had was often excruciating and debilitat I ng, since then it's very badsometimes but most of the time manageable. Pelvic radiation can have side effects l imagine it won't be so bad with just one treatment. I was left with chronic constipation and hanges in my voiding. It can take up to 6 months for the pain relief to kick in. If you are not doing this for pain relief find out why it's being recommended , ask about side effects before you agree to treatment,Wish you the best,
That is interesting that they would only do 1 session. I also had a very tiny lesion on my sacrum last February and they did 5 high dose radiation treatments that lasted about 15 minutes each. I did not have any pain from the lesion nor did I have pain after the treatments. I was able to play golf after every session. The lesion was completely gone by my next scan and the subsequent scan a few weeks ago. You are very lucky to have to have only 1 treatment. I assume that would be high dose as well. You should be fine and I send you best wishes.
I was given only one treatment. I was surprised, but they said that it makes no difference if you have it all at once or divided into 5 separate treatments. I did have an increase in pain for a couple of weeks so took extra painkillers. I'm about 4 months on now and no longer have the awful constant pain or the weird sensations where it had been pressing on the nerves around the spine. They did 6 vertebrae: T10, T11, T12 and L.1, L2, L3.
