Moderna Booster

Good Evening - I’m scheduled for a Moderna booster vaccine tomorrow and I’m curious to know if anyone had any reaction with theirs. I had a terrible reaction to my second dose back in February and hoping it’s not as bad this time around.

Hello I got my booster one month ago (Pzifer)

I had Moderna for the 2 doses.

I was sick after the first dose for a few days, no side effects for the second shot but I felt sick for 24 hours after the Pzifer booster though.

Good luck with your booster

I got my Moderna booster. No side effects except soreness in arm of the booster site. When ever I get vaccines, I am especially vigilant to make sure I am well hydrated for 2-3 days prior and after.

I will tell you that the booster is the same ingredients and the same amount of medicine as in one shot. The booster is the same as the one vaccine of the 2 shots you already got but only one of them. If you had a really bad reaction to the second shot, I would go in knowing that that’s possible because it’s the same thing. I’m not sure what you experienced but I would take the proper precautions, a booster shot is just a third shot of the same thing that you got already. My sister kept telling me that she’s waiting for the booster to be made she’s waiting for the booster to be made thinking it was different ingredients or a different strain or strength that’s not true. She also received moderna and they were waiting to see efficacy, They didn’t make a new vaccine or a new strength or a new recipe, It’s the same strength as one vaccine and it’s the same recipe as the one of the 2 vaccines that you already got. That’s my understanding about boosters. It’s just a third shot of what you got already to boost you back up to where you were after the second shot /vaccine. :) good luck . I got my Pfizer booster a few weeks ago and that is how the pharmacist explained the booster to me. 🌹

That’s so interesting as I was told there’s a booster as well as a 3rd vaccine. The Pfizer “booster” is the full dose whereas the Moderna is only 50%. I was also I told those who are immunocompromised have a 3rd vaccine; not simply a booster as we may not have had the full effects of 2 vaccines the way others have.

It’s all rather confusing.

My husband had two Moderna vaccines as well as his booster last week. He simply felt a bit of soreness at the injection site on all 3 occasions. I hope you don’t have any nasty side effects, Mary. But if you do, they seem to part only 24 and sometimes 48 hrs. Take care! K

I didn’t realize the booster was different than a third dose. My oncologist didn’t specify which one to get. I ended up with the booster and they told me it’s a half dose. I feel pretty good today except for a sore arm and headache.

So glad you weren’t sick after it. Be safe and enjoy the holidays! All best, K

You are correct my brother-in-law and sister just went for the Moderna booster today and it is 50% the amount as one injection. Pfizer is 100% same as the injection. I’m not sure about J&J or even if there is a booster.

Those who’ve had J&J are taking either Pfizer or Moderna.

Thank you - I’m definitely more prepared for a reaction this time. I honestly wasn’t expecting to feel as bad as I did with my second dose. I’m bracing myself this time :)

I had a terrible reaction to the second shot of Moderna and put it down to the thought that I had Covid in December 2019. For that reason I won’t be having any more shots! Chris

Dreading the booster. I had Covid in March 2020. Felt terrible after Moderna shots one and two. So did my staffer who also had Covid. My son who had Covid same time as me did the J&J vaccine and was wiped out for three days. At some point I wish they could just test my T cells. If I have natural immunity at this point, I would skip the booster. I really am prolonging getting it as I am in a super busy period at work and do not have time to feel like I was hit by a train. I got a flu shot during my off Ibrance week. I work from home and am not out and about much. But at some point I fear they will want to see a booster on my vaccine card. It really is maddening!

You can only have natural immunity if you’ve had covid and have had no vaccinations.

My palliative care doctor had covid before she got the injections. She was out of work for three weeks and she said the hospital (the cancer center is also related to a hospital) and that they told her she had to wait three months before she could get the injections. They still said she had to get the injections but the protocol then was that if someone had covid and she tested for the antibodies, the waiting time was three months before one could get the injections.

I had Pfizer for all three and I was only very tired for all three, no fever no illness. Good luck!

I had my Moderna booster last Thursday. It was recommended by my oncologist to receive the full dose so technically a third shot rather than the half dose booster. That night I had a sore arm and felt a bit feverish and achy and the next day I felt a bit more achy and feverish so I just relaxed and took 2 tylenols. By the next day I felt perfectly fine. These were similar reactions to the second dose of the shot for me. You should ask your oncologist if you should get the full dose or half dose. The full dose is recommended for immunocompromised. Best wishes to you.

I had pfeizer on Saturday. Felt groggy Sunday, but it soon passed off. I was quite poorly after my first astro zeneca but fine with the second. X

Well, I hope you’re feeling better than you anticipated! I got my third shot in September but it wasn’t considered a booster; it was a full dose third shot, which is apparently different from the traditional boosters at half dosage. If so, you may well be tired for several days. Just embrace the downtime and stay hydrated. This, too, shall pass. Hope all stays well!

Hi! The 1st 2 vaccines i had a minor headache - the booster I was very ill with flu - like symptoms and a high fever for about a week. A few of my physicians actually questioned my decision to get the booster stating it wasn't necessary AND a few weeks later I had a follow up scan which showed cancer in my lymph nodes which ended up being a false positive due to the booster. I still haven't fully recovered yet and completely regret it. Just make sure you aren't having any scans soon, and your doctors really b want you to have it. Good Luck! Have a great day! 🙏🙏🙏

Oh yes…I do r3member that my lymph nodes showed up hot on a scan shortly after the vaccine….but everyone was prepared for that and then it resolved itself. Scared but just one of the many “scaries” we live through now.🥴

I had a terrible reaction from the 2nd shot. I will not get the 3rd booster! I fainted twice, within 30 minutes of one another, my blood sugar level went severely low; I was shaky, vomited, and felt exhausted for over a week. Since the vaccine, I have had medical problems and my cancer has spread to my abdominal area. Coincidence? I don’t know. But definitely not taking a chance on a booster. Good luck though for you!!

I heard that same thing from a nurse treating patients who has since been silenced by her superiors.

My first vaccine was the J&J. Got the Moderna booster about two weeks ago and had nothing but a slightly sore arm for a few days.

I also had a bad reaction to my second Moderna shot and I felt horrible after my booster shot. I took Tylenol for headache, fever and muscle aches.Lasted a week for both!

I am getting my booster shot next Tuesday. I was told by the pharmacist that since I am immunocompromised the booster shot is at full strength. Others get 50% of the dose. The side effects I had from the Moderna shots were soreness and fatigue for a day or so.

I had no reactions w either of the Moderna but the booster I had flu like symptoms. Make sure you don't have any scans or testing up to 10 weeks after the booster. I had 1 4 weeks later and my ultrasound showed spread to the lymp nodes - it ended up being a false positive from the booster.
