Additional treatment.

Today I had my oncology appt with a new oncologist. On the plus side bloods were good and neutrophils at 1.3. He also mentioned a possible face to face appt and gave me two months pills so I can get to Scotland. ( I had already booked and told him I wouldn't be back in time for a monthly blood test! ) So he had to give in or give me an extra week off.

He then spoke about giving me infusions as I have bone metastases. Monthly for three months then three monthly. I think I have to await a letter to sign a consent form and get it done. I think I've seen some of you writing about this. Any comments about this additional treatment? It's never been suggested before.

Thank you Sandra for all that information. It will be very useful. I've been told my kidney function is good so that's a plus. I keep my hydration up to prevent further UTIs or kidney infections but I'll increase for the treatment. He did discuss my teeth and dental issues. But I don't have any problems there. X

I have been doing the Zometa IV since 2013. I get fluids after my treatment because I am one of those that have flu symptoms for about 5 days afterwards. Enjoy your trip.

Thanks for the warning. X

Hi, I have Denosumab injections every month. I have been fine on them apart from some dental problems. I can miss a few months at a time if I wish because it stays in the body for many years. I have had bone mets plus others for 2.6 years now. Hope this helps.

Thank you. It's interesting that my original oncologist didn't mention it last year but the new one has done so immediately. As he said, new people, different ideas. As long as it helps me I don't mind. Just don't want to get too tied down with another lot of appointments. X

Have a fantastic time in Scotland. I have Denosumab injections monthly. They help with bone pain as wellClare

I have had Zometa injections since diagnosis in 2013. At first, every month, I think and then every two months and now every three months. No problems. I have no side effects. Enjoy your trip. We need these perks.

Cheers, June S.

Be sure to go for a complete dental check up prior to your first infusion. If you require any dental work, especially if it involves the jaw bone in any way is best completed before you start this new treatment.Enjoy your time in Scotland!

I've just had a regular check and a filling but I'll maybe ring them to check. Thank you. X

Enjoy your trip to Scotland Carolyn ! Glad your bloods were back to normal and well done you for telling your new oncologist what your plans were ! I can’t advise you on Zometa / Xgeva as I haven’t yet been on either , but it may be something I have to do in the future .Take care! x
