Monthly Treatment

Hi everyone I hope you are all staying safe. I went for my monthly Denusomab injection and to pick up my Ibrance and Letrozole at the hospital yesterday and not one nurse had a face mask on. They had also grouped everyone having chemo in one section much closer together than normal. Is it the same at other hospitals? I though they would be much more careful.

I am going to Hospital Tues but going back way so I dont have to walk through main hospital. When I went to doctors nurse had mask on so hoping hospital will be the same. I am on same meds as you

Face masks are in short supply all over the world. I would guess that they are reserving face masks for nurses and doctors who are taking care of infectious and potentially infectious patients.

Yes probably but also going from patient to patient without changing gloves. We sat very close together about one metre apart

I will definitely question it next time, I normally question everything but I was so anxious to get out of there fast

Face masks are a waste of time imo

I keep hearing that but if I seems to me if I’m standing next to someone with the virus who coughed or sneezed, I’m sure an N95 would offer some protection. Don’t you think?

It’s the person whose coughing who should be wearing the mask

Thanks and I understand that. But I’ve read that at first the symptoms are so mild, many don’t know they’re infected and wouldn’t be wearing a mask if they had one. It’s moot really as I’m not going out except to walk but I was just curious. K

Yes, I saw that. 🙁

Sorry, but perhaps for the better and let’s hope distancing for a few weeks does the job.

Time for playing those dusty board games, cleaning closets, drawers, home offices etc. I’ve got a list of to dos and not making a lot of progress. Spend too much time reading the news and chatting on the phone with long lost friends and family. Interesting how the isolation affects us all in so many ways. Some actually for the better. Haven’t spent a cent except for groceries in 10 days.

Take care and check in with updates.

Greeted at the door with Hazmat suit and thermometer...Guests were not allowed in Infusion Room but prenotice wasn’t given. I just assumed it would be that way. The nurses didn’t take extra precautions but they actually provided Lysol spray and disinfectant wipes for the bathroom for the first time in years. But still no seat covers or gloves to use the wipes 😱

I’m off to Royal In Liverpool Wednesday. I will let you know. Bloods tomorrow at Phlebotomy in the same hospital.

I received numerous phone calls this week from Kaiser Permanente, my health care provider. My oncology appointment was changed to a video appointment with my onc in April. I was told to not go to the hospital for anything, but to call oncology first. I was advised to have someone else pick up my Ibrance from the pharmacy this Monday plus my onc approved a two month supply without me having to go for labs as my labs have been reasonably stable the last few months. I already was mailed a 90 day supply last week of Letrozole and Pradaxa. The oral chemo pharmacist also called to emphesize staying home and practice social distancing, and to set the date for my next labs in May, with the understanding that I can make a lab appointment if needed. I felt very much taken care of because if this proactive approach by Kaiser.

I too am with Kaiser in N. CA. and also feel well looked after.

They’re so well organized! My oncologist also suggested I have someone else collect my meds but not yet ibrance. I’m due to begin taking it 3/29 but she’s told me not to start a new cycle for another 5 weeks.

I’m not allowed to go into the clinic or hospital for labs, Zometa infusion or other. I have low wbcs each cycle so I’m sure that’s one reason they’re keeping me off ibrance.

Take care!

Kathleen

Had my bloods done today. Empty Phlebotomy Dept. Then went up to Chemo treatment ward to see if I need to go Wednesday......answer was yes. Nobody was wearing a mask in Chemo but they were in Phlebotomy. So I will go Wednesday, a 2mile walk there and back but weather looks good. Hubby is not allowed in with me. Makes sense. Update Wednesday ladies.
