I just finished my 3rd round.

I am in the middle of my second cycle. The first cycle I had all the side effects but none this cycle. In another group others reported the same; 1st cycle much worse than 2nd

I've been taking this medication in various ways since the beginning of November. I have landed on 2000mgs per day. One week on and one week off. I also have constant stomach problems. Mostly nausea and stomach cramps. This is my week off and the stomach issues are worse than my week on. I do take zofran day and night and anti-diarrhea medication. The pharmacy nurse explained that although I have been off for a week Xeloda stays in the system for a long time and it does accumulate over time.

I have changed my diet to mostly carbs as that is all I can tolerate. Some days are better than others. The last two days haven't been so great. Seems like I just can't get a handle on what to anticipate with this medicine although it has significantly reduced my marker numbers!

Just wanted you to know that you aren't alone.

Best,

Audrey

I have been on Xeloda since April of 2020. I was on one week on and one off. Then went to one week on and two weeks off. My cancer numbers stayed the same after the two weeks off, so now I have 5 weeks off. Feeling better. More energy. It is a wonderful drug.

Ibrance stopped working so we switched to Xeloda.

Check with your doctor to see if you can get two weeks off.

Best to you. Reenie

Hi. What’s your dosage on the one week on and 2 weeks off if I may ask? Maria

Rbeth profile image
Rbeth in reply to MyMiracle13

Of course: 1000 in the am and 1000 in the pm. My last 27-29 cancer numbers were 110 then 120, then 121 - after being off 2 weeks. Reenie

Thanks for the quick reply. I too am on Xeloda 1,500 mg daily with no day or week off. I believe it is called metronomic dosing. I don’t know though how long I can keep up with the continuous dosing because my oncologist said my bone marrow has to rest. Knowing that a 2 week rest works for you gives me joy😊. Maria

Yes. My oncologist said my body needs to heal. I got a second opinion from Memorial Sloan Kettering. Perhaps you need a second opinion. You can request it online.

How many weeks/months have you been on Xeloda? I pain for you. Xeloda effects my brain too. Please keep me in the loop. Be well. Reenie

I take the Xeloda at 10:30am and 10:30 pm so I can sleep through the side effects. You can’t take it less than 8 hours apart.

I take 1000 at these times.

I was on Ibrance for about a year and a half. It stopped working and my 27-29 cancer numbers went over 1150. Very bad.

I started Xeloda with a stronger dose and ended up in the hospital for 6 days in June in dehydration and in malnutrition. It was awful.

I originally had breast cancer in 2010. It came back in the lining of my stomach and a stricture in my rectum. Also in my ribs and bones. My ribs and bones are scar tissue. No more cancer there.

My overall cancer number was 121, and that was after being off Xeloda for two weeks.

I have my own beat cancer diet. I eat a half cup of blueberries and a half cup blackberries every day. I drink organic coconut water not from concentrate all day. I also drink 1 cup of orange juice and V8 with reduced sodium. The V8 gives me two servings of vegetables.

I don’t have food that is fried, I eat two eggs daily and I like to chew ice. This isn’t good for your teeth. Oh well. It gets more fluid in me.

I wish each and every one of you the best at fighting this awful disease.

I watched a program about Egypt. Queen Nefertiti had brain cancer. They could tell by the holes in her brain. She concocted her own makeup which the archeologists feel had carcinogenic material in it. Scary thought.

Be well. Try the coconut water. I get it at Costco.

Glad to help. Reenie

Hi Reenie. Thanks for your very helpful hints. What is V8? I live in the Philippines so blueberries and blackberries are not easily available here. However, coconuts are in abundance so I will take drink coconut water as you suggest. The Xeloda is working for me but I am on a continuous dosing schedule which is probably not sustainable in the long run. My body needs to rest at some point.

Hi Ms Miracle,

V8 is a vegetable juice. It’s like tomato juice. Tangerines are good. Fermented food such as pickles, olives, and Kimchi. Just keep drinking fluids. I eat two eggs a day as I suffer from malnutrition.

The Xeloda gives me diarrhea every day, and cramping. I take oxycodone for pain. It doesn’t work too well. I sit on a heating pad most of the day.

My son-in-law’s family is from the Philippines. I have the most adorable 7 year old grandson.

If you want a second opinion, you can contact Memorial Sloan Kettering in NYC. I sent them an email and they did a work up on me and consulted with my Rochester oncologist.

Be well. Reenie

I have been onCapecitabine 3000 mg per daysince March 2020, had to be lowered to 2500 per day because of hand an foot syndrome which appeared after 7 months on treatment. no stomach issues except the first month after which I started taking Graviola leaves tea (Annona paniculata) once a day on empty stomach. In 250 ml of water boil 10 bruised leaves for 10 min, turn of the heat and let rest 20 min covered before drinking. I also drink green tea every day. I don ‘ know if it is these teas that eliminated all stomach issues but... it is worth trying.

where do you buy the graviola leaves

Split in reply to Iwouldlike2knowmore

You can buy them on line. Amazon has different brands. Sometime under the name soursop leaves, other times guanabana graviola. Buy whole leaves not extracts or teabags. Those grown in Latin America and Indonesia are readily available. I made a mistake with the Latin name, it should say Annona Muricata, sorry about that. Always check it says ‘muricata’ as there are other types of annona. This plant remedy has been for decades hugely popular in Latin America, a plant to go to by anyone with cancer.
