Just found out from oncology nurse (I rang her) that I should have Covid vaccine during my week off Ibrance! No one has advised this before...probably logical but in all the excitement of getting a jab I hadn’t thought about it. Luckily I had just finished week 4, so asked if I could extend not taking Ibrance. She gave me two choices, either delay vaccine date (No!) or can delay taking Ibrance for further week as long as I resume three days after the vaccine - chosen this, however it means that my future oncology appointment s are rescheduled a week later.
Just thought you all should be aware if not already!!

I asked my oncologist for guidance about the Covid vaccine and my Ibrance and was given no advice or help as to getting the vaccine during my week off but that makes so much sense. I will question her again as I see her tomorrow. Thank you for your post.
My doctor said she would prefer me to get it on my off week, but I needed to get it as a soon as it was available which is not my off week. I’m scheduled to get it Tuesday. I will be on Day 10 of Ibrance.
I had mine a week ago which was day 7 of my Ibrance cycle. I was called 2 days before to have it done with other oncology patients at the hospital, so I jumped at the chance. I had a bit of a headache that day but otherwise have felt fine, just the common tenderness at the injection site for a couple of days.

I got mine through work so they weren’t bothered about my medication. More interested in allergies. I had mine 2 weeks ago and felt no ill effects whatsoever. Just waiting to hear about number 2.Clare
I got mine 2 weeks ago . We are both 57 ...I’m on the clinically extremely vulnerable to covid list here in the U.K.,being on Ibrance ,( I received the Oxford Astra Zeneca vaccine , ) and was a bit shivery in bed that night and had a slight arm tenderness at vaccine site the next day but nothing much more . I had it towards the end of my week off Ibrance.My husband was offered it too by our local council this week ( as the main carer of someone on the clinically extremely vulnerable to covid list ) and he had the Pfizer vaccine and he has not had any post vaccine symptoms. We are very grateful to have had the first jabs already , here in the U.K. they are now beginning to invite the 65-70 age group in the general population ( the over 70s , vulnerable and carers have been done ), so they are doing really well getting it out there ! I read that you get around 65% protection 14 days after the first jab . Just a concern tho ‘ currently about all the new covid variants appearing around the world ! . Now a wait for the second jab! Yes I knew this. I checked before having flu jab knowing I was on immunosuppressants. I wrote to my gp with my dates and had to forward the email from my oncology nurse confirming this. I had mine on my first day off. I had a reaction, so presume that means it's working. That was a week ago and now I'm back on the ibrance.
My onc, at last visit said get the vaccine whenever you can. But, when I called the specialty pharmacy about the shot, he said to get it on day 8 or so because I have 2 weeks off between my Ibrance cycles. The problem comes with the second shot, after 21 days which is toward the end of my cycle.
I go today to get my Covid vaccine shot, was advised to get it from my Oncologist, but had questions to ask him at my last appointment, wanted to know if we were protected like other people that don’t have underlying conditions and his answer was that they don’t know enough about it and people with underlying conditions were not tested and could possibly still get Covid 19 and that they don’t even know what percentage it will protect people with these conditions, but he still advised me to get it, but never even mentioned to get it on the week off of Ibrance, so now I am scheduled for today for the vaccine and am questioning if I should be getting this today, called the office and left a message on this, thank you ladies for letting me know this information that I wasn’t aware of , have a blessed day !
My oncologist (and the entire clinic) had no guidance for me and said getting a vaccine was my choice. Apparently, there's little information about the shot and cancer patients so they're waiting before giving out advice. Well, I've seen plenty of people who have "recovered" from Covid and are still suffering from serious damage to their bodies (worse than what I'm dealing with). So, yes to the shot for me. I was on day 18 of my Ibrance cycle when I got it (Moderna) and had mild SEs (mild headache that night, fatigue the next day - but of course, with cancer patients it's hard to tell what's really causing the fatigue). Honestly, it never occurred to me to check my medication schedule. I was so excited to get one!
My Cancer Centre said go for it at whatever stage I was at during my Ibrance and Letrozole treatment as it wouldn’t make any difference to my meds. Maybe it depends on your blood count. I actually chose to have it on my week off Ibrance but you may not have a choice. Thank goodness I was fine. Wishing you all the best with it. Cheryl
Yes, I think we all should have our COVID shot during the 7 day rest period from our drugs. I was not allowed to have my flu shot last year when I was taking Ibrance because of the low neutrophils. It makes sense that you would take your shot when your blood was at its best level. It when your immune system is at its best.
My oncologist said the most important thing was just to get the vaccine when I could. At 65 I am eligible and got in --- I happened to be on my off week for the first vaccine shot so that was good but my second shot will be on day 18 of Ibrance-- which is also when my counts are super low. Basically there is no easy way to avoid those days when you have a two shot vaccine. My arm was sore for the first and I anticipate some aches and pains with even more when I get the second. This seems to be the usual for the Pfizer vaccine. Just hoping its not too bad. I will just be happy to not have to worry as much about getting Covid. I'm coming up on 5 years metastatic -- and 25 since a mastectomy and chemo-- and 11 since a first reoccurrence and radiation-- I feel like enough is enough and can't wait to not worry about covid so much. I know it won't be back to normal-- just hoping for not as much worry and a few more visits with our 16 grandchildren !!

My oncologist's office said it didn't matter when I got it. It happened to fall on day 4 after I finished my 21 days of Ibrance - but I need 2 weeks off so I know my counts would've been very low! All I had was a mild sore injection site for a day.
I am also on Ibrance and letrozole. Originally my np said to get it 2nd week of cycle, but was impossible to find a location within 100 miles! When the chance came to finally make an appointment she said do it no matter what the timing. This is only my third cycle ever of Ibrance and my wbc has never gone below 1000 (the crucial # she says) so don’t know if that makes a difference.
Hi ThereI get mine tomorrow. I was able to work with a Covid scheduler to schedule my vaccine for my off week with Ibrance. My oncologist told me to take an extra week off. Not sure which vaccine it is.
Yes...originally I was told to schedule the first shot on my week off but that got messed up because of low blood numbers and a delay. Then, as more data came in, the recommendation was to get the first shot whenever you can...however the SECOND shot should be taken during a break because the side effects are so much stronger. As more is known, the recommendations may change...either way, get those shots because COVID is far worse than a couple days of aches and shivers.🤞🥰🙏
