What is wrong with me?

I’m not sure this is because I’m sick or because of my cancer? I’m very dizzy and sick to my stomach. Every time I lie down the entire room spins and If I turn on my side, same thing. I also have chills on and off. No fever or any other symptoms. I have my chemo on Thursdays and I’ve been stage four for six years. I’ve never had anything like this.

Do you have an emergency number to get through to your oncologist or oncology nurses? If so, I would give them a ring or else call an ambulance to take you to hospital. I hope you feel better soon, but please don’t ignore your symptoms.

Ok. Don’t laugh at this but have you ever heard of the “rocks” in your head are out of place? It’s a real thing. I think some call them ear crystals. There’s a test of holding your head in a certain position to see if you have that problem. Google it. Of course I wouldn’t think chills would be a symptom of it. So you should definitely call your onc. But hanging your head in a crazy position to see if it helps couldn’t hurt anything.

We hope you are ok and seeked out medical help. Best to get checked that you don't have something. Otherwise I was also considering ear crystals out of place, or sudden vertigo but the chills doesn't seem to fit with either of those possibilities.

Do you maybe have an inner ear infection? Get it checked out. Not everything is cancer related.

I agree with the others that it sounds like "ear rocks" (medical name is Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo or BPPV) As a child, I had frequent untreated ear infections. As an adult, I had occasional extreme vertigo such as you described. (The chills come when you feel you are going to throw up.) The Epley Maneuver is designed to return the crystals (the result of ear infections?) from the semicircular canals of your inner ear to the central part of the inner ear where they are harmless. My BPPV has become slightly more frequent since I was diagnosed with MBC in 2019 but it is still manageable. It apparently increases with age so that the incidence in people over the age of 65 may be as high as 35%. Physiotherapists can help teach you the Epley Maneuver.

Suzi , I hope you are ok and that you managed to get someone to ring your oncology helpline for advice |to get it checked out .I hope it is the common inner ear problem , BPPV , which causes positional vertigo , but it is worth getting checked out that it is nothing more serious, given our condition.

I experienced something similar , over a year ago, when I turned over in bed from one side to another too quickly . I became very dizzy , it felt like the whole room was spinning and I had to hold onto my walls to get to my en-suite ...and I then started vomiting for some time . My husband checked that I didn’t have a fever and called my oncology out -of -hours helpline , who asked me to go in to see them later that afternoon. I drank lots of water as I was dehydrated from vomiting and then I went back to bed for a few hours . ( At the time I didn’t know about positional vertigo ). Luckily when I got up out of bed a few hours later , moving very slowly and carefully, it had passed . The oncology team checked everything and I was ok to go home , but it was a scary experience as I thought it could be related to brain mets . So always best to get it checked out with your oncology team ! Take care ! x 😘

Symptoms like these are something to call your onc about. You are likely to be able to get thru to a nurse. I had the inner ear out of alignment dizziness others are talking about here, and my primary care doctor did something called the Eppley maneuver, moving my head around in a specific sequence, and that did move the ear crystals back into alignment. The dizziness I had was really overwhelming. I could not walk without help, couldn't even get up out of bed on my own.

The other thing I wanted to say is that living with this lousy rotten cancer, plus cancer treatment, can cause all kinds of symptoms and I've made it a "rule" for myself that if I even think of calling my onc, or another of my doctors, i call, and if I even think of going to the

ER, I go. It just seems as though we have no or very little wiggle room when it comes to taking care of ourselves. Anything that moves us backward rather than forward needs to be brought to our oncs' attention. Do let us know how you are doing! Dizziness is awful to try to live with!

Vertigo is a very real condition that can cause terrible problems. Just wondering if you suffer from sinus problems? Sometimes you can have very deep seated sinus blockage that can cause dizziness. I am so sorry you are feeling this lousy you really need to contact a medical professional for advice. Hope you feel better soon.

If you didn’t have the chills I would think it was vertigo but with the chills you really should call your oncologist.
