Hi I just finished 5 radiation treatments to my throat oesophageal & right clavicle area . For about 9 days I felt nauseous and had little appetite and was a little fatigued . Then came the awful sore throat on about day 5 after last treatment ,it lasted about 7 days . Anything other than liquids was almost impossible to swallow . In that time my appetite had come back so I was hangry a lot . Tried to eat creamed soups , broths , tapioca pudding , porridge , rice pudding , mashed potatoes , ice cream, milkshake . I tried protein powdered shakes suggested at clinic , I didn’t know what to buy and the ones I did I found were disgusting .

My skin turned to an itchy red rash that I put Aveeno moisturizing cream fragrance free on . It was very itchy for a few days ,fortunately it never broke open . It turned to a darker pigment and is starting to slough off .

I had my last treatment on Nov 10 th and by Dec 1 I was feeling good again . I was able to do some activities during this time but required rest after 3-4 hours of working .

I hope this helps , all the best to your Mom .

Hello, Millie,

I had 10 rounds of radiation three years ago, targeting mets to my spine. Unfortunately, my esophagus ended up a bit of an unintended target, leaving me with esophagitis for a couple of weeks or so.

I am responding to your post to simply provide your mum with a bit of a heads up as to potential, temporary side effect when rads will be so near to her esophagus.

God bless you and your mum. 🙏🏻🙏🏻💗💗

Hello Seattle Mom, how did you know when it was time to radiate? My drs seem concerned about my spine Tumor in L1 and left it up to me to tell them... saying i have to be careful as I could become paralysed so should warn them of increase in pain... right now my hips are worse then my back... if they did do my spine I would like them to hit up those hips. Can they do both areas or do they just do the one spot they are most concerned about? And so you are glad you did it? Did it stop cancer in its tracks?

Hi Betty! My radiation was done at initial diagnosis of MBC. I had extensive mets in spine, and yes, radiation zapped them, along with hormonal therapy (Ibrance and Letrozole).

I cannot see why both spine and hip area could not be radiated at same time.

God bless you on this journey! 🙏🏻🙏🏻💗💗

So for 10 years did the radiation stop the progression in you back? Was there any residual pain? This all sounds wonderful... I am afraid of the advancing pain and especially of a bone break which may leave me paralysed... we you in mod pain when you pursued it or did you wait to be in agony?

Hi, Betty,My initial diagnosis of MBC was a little over three years ago. That was when the radiation was done. The radiation helped to alleviate most of the pain I had been experiencing in my back. I was also prescribed Ibrance and Letrozole at the same time.

In addition, I get an injection of Xgeva into tummy fat every three months. Xgeva is a bone strengthener, but it can also cause a bit of bone ache. You might want to discuss this protocol with your oncologist to potentially prevent a bone break.

Good luck, Betty! XXOO
